Micromobility operator JET announced a special deployment of 500 additional electric scooters in southern Mexico City to facilitate last-mile transportation for fans traveling to Estadio Azteca (Mexico City Stadium) for the FIFA World Cup matches.
The deployment coincides with a series of coordinated mobility measures implemented by the Mexico City government. To manage congestion around the stadium, authorities established a designated "Last Mile" control perimeter, introduced partial road closures, created dedicated pedestrian corridors and expanded public transportation services.
The strategy builds on data collected during pilot programs conducted earlier this month at Liga MX matches. Organized in coordination with municipal authorities to evaluate demand during high-attendance sporting events, the pilots took place on May 3 and May 9. According to the company, users completed more than 500 trips during the two-day testing period.
Users can locate, unlock and manage the scooters through JET’s proprietary GO JET mobile application, available on both iOS and Android devices. Company officials said the deployment is a temporary, event-specific operation designed to accommodate the surge in mobility demand generated by the tournament opener.
Traffic management plans for major events at Estadio Azteca traditionally prioritize public transportation and pedestrian access over private vehicles. JET executives said these policies increase the importance of last-mile mobility solutions and position the World Cup deployment as a large-scale operational test of the company’s ability to support urban transportation during international events.
“The opening of the World Cup is a historic moment for Mexico City and a real test for the mobility systems surrounding major events,” said Victor Coelho, Public Relations Manager for Latin America, JET. “With this special deployment, JET aims to help more people complete their journey to the stadium with a practical, accessible and sustainable alternative, especially on a day when traffic will be partially restricted in the area.”
The company said it will use operational data collected during the opening match to refine its fleet distribution strategy and improve the scalability of its services for future periods of high urban mobility demand.
