Marcela Barreiro was appointed President and CEO of Daimler Trucks México, owner of the Freightliner brand, which is the most important in the Mexican heavy-vehicle market. Freightliner accounted for 57 percent of total heavy vehicle production in Mexico in 2020 with 185,767 units produced. Moreover, it accounted for 63 percent of all heavy vehicle exports in 2020. When it comes to sales, the company also ranked first with a 29 percent market share in 2020.

"During its 13 years at Daimler Trucks, Marcela has earned the trust and mutual acknowledgment of collaborators, peers and customers in Mexico and the region," said John O'Leary, President and CEO of Daimler Trucks North America since April 1, 2021. "Combining her experience at Daimler, business knowledge and her great leadership, she is the ideal candidate to lead our organization in Mexico and to even take it to new horizons in the upcoming years."

Barreiro has 13 years of experience at Daimler Trucks México. She began her journey in the legal department of the company and after five years, she was promoted to Director of Legal Affairs in Mexico, a position she held before becoming Director of Human Resources at Daimler Trucks México, leading a workforce of more than 8,000 employees in the country.

During her time as head of human resources, Daimler Trucks México was first in the Great Place to Work 2020 ranking in the manufacturing category. At the same time, Daimler's wellness program has also been recognized as an industry reference. "We are very proud of being recognized as a Great Place to Work. It is neither a one-day job nor a single-person responsibility. It is the result of a team effort that is particularly focused on coping with the pandemic’s effects," she said to MBN in October 2020.

Barreiro will become the first woman leading Daimler Trucks México, one of the most important companies in the country's automotive sector. "We have a vocation for innovation in a variety of segments, from product lines to customer service. Innovation and creativity will continue to be essential to embrace a world best suited to agile and empowered companies and team members. It is not about completely changing what exists today but getting there through training and fresh perspectives," said Barreiro to MBN.

In Mexico, Daimler Trucks has two manufacturing plants located in Santiago Tianguistenco, State of Mexico, and in Saltillo, Coahuila, as well as an international parts distribution center in San Luis Potosi, an engine and components remanufacturing plant in Toluca, State of Mexico, and a dealership network comprised of 83 points of sales and service. Daimler Trucks México employs more than 8,000 people at its five locations.

Barreiro is taking over Flavio Rivera, who served as President and CEO of Daimler Trucks México for the last four years. "We thank Flavio for all his years at the company and the last four leading Daimler Trucks México," said O'Leary.
