A collaboration between the automotive industry, diplomatic representatives and technical education institutions took center stage at the CONALEP campus in Irapuato, where Mazda delivered a vehicle to support hands-on training for automotive students during an event highlighting cultural and educational ties between Japan and Guanajuato.
The initiative took place during the celebration of Japan Day at the CONALEP Irapuato campus, which brought together more than 600 students in activities designed to highlight Japanese culture while strengthening collaboration between academic institutions and the automotive industry. As part of the event, Mazda donated a Mazda CX-30, which will be used in practical training for students enrolled in the campus’ Automotive Industry program.
Organizers said the donation aims to support applied technical education by giving students direct exposure to current automotive technologies. According to information presented during the event, the vehicle will allow students to work with modern systems used in contemporary vehicles and strengthen their professional training.
“This support will allow students to strengthen their learning through direct contact with current automotive technology, developing skills in diagnosis, maintenance and the operation of vehicle systems,” organizers said during the presentation.
The vehicle was formally delivered by Yoshikazu Nagai, executive vice president, Mazda de México, and received by Nicolás Gutiérrez, director general, CONALEP Guanajuato. The ceremony included participation from educational, diplomatic and local representatives connected to Japanese institutions and community organizations in the region.
Honor witnesses included Valeria Alfaro, president, DIF Irapuato, and Takero Aoyama, consul general, Japan in Leon. Also present were Kazuhiko Sota, director, Instituto Educativo Japonés Irapuato, and Mario Osorio, director, CONALEP Irapuato campus.
The Japan Day celebration was organized with support from several institutions, including the Consulate of Japan in Leon, the Amigo Kai Association, Mazda de México, scholarship recipients from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) program, and the Instituto Educativo Japonés Irapuato.
Throughout the day, students participated in a series of cultural and educational activities designed to showcase Japanese traditions and promote international exchange. Activities included presentations on Japanese calendars and legends, workshops on traditional cuisine, demonstrations of traditional clothing and origami sessions, as well as cultural symposia.
According to event organizers, the activities were designed to help students experience different aspects of Japanese culture while reinforcing educational cooperation between Mexico and Japan.
“These activities allowed students to approach different expressions of Japanese culture while strengthening cultural exchange between the two nations,” organizers said.
The collaboration reflects broader ties between Japanese companies and the industrial ecosystem in Guanajuato, a state that hosts a significant presence of automotive manufacturing and suppliers connected to Japanese automakers. Educational partnerships with technical institutions such as CONALEP are often used to develop workforce skills aligned with industry needs.
Officials from CONALEP Guanajuato said initiatives such as the vehicle donation help reinforce the institution’s focus on technical education linked to productive sectors. The organization emphasized that partnerships with international companies and institutions support training programs that reflect current industry requirements.
“With initiatives like this, CONALEP Guanajuato reaffirms its commitment to promoting quality technical education with an international perspective and close collaboration with the productive sector,” organizers said.
The Mazda CX-30 donated during the event will now be incorporated into the practical training activities of students in the Automotive Industry program at the CONALEP Irapuato campus, where it will be used to support technical instruction in vehicle systems and diagnostics.
