MG Motor México reported its strongest start to a year since entering the national market in 2021, delivering 9,352 vehicles during the first two months of 2026. The figure represents a 31.6% increase compared with the same period in 2025. In February alone, the company sold 3,154 units.
Beyond the domestic market, MG also reported significant expansion in neighboring regions. In Central America and the Caribbean, the company recorded cumulative sales growth of 154% compared with 2025. The increase positioned MG among the three best-selling automotive brands in the Caribbean.
MG attributes its early-year results to a diversified product portfolio designed to serve different customer segments and driving conditions in Mexico. The brand operates under the global automotive group SAIC Motor, which provides manufacturing capabilities, supply chain infrastructure and engineering support for product development.
During the first two months of 2026, the MG5, MG ZS and MG3 ranked as the company’s best-selling models in the Mexican market. These vehicles accounted for the largest share of the company’s sales volume and remain central to MG’s market positioning across the sedan and SUV segments.
Electrified models also contributed to the company’s growth. The hybrid version of the MG ZS recorded its highest monthly sales level in January. Meanwhile, the MG HS reached a sales peak in February after the launch of a new plug-in hybrid electric variant.
Company executives linked the results to a combination of product availability and pricing strategy. “The commercial performance of the first two months of the year is the result of the work we have done to promote mobility in Mexico, offering a wide range of products with advanced technology at a competitive price,” said Daniel Nava, vice president, MG Motor México.
Nava said the company plans to continue expanding its product lineup. “We will continue evolving our offering to consolidate our position and support the mobility needs of thousands of Mexican families with clean and reliable solutions,” he said.
In parallel with product expansion, MG has invested in strengthening its retail and service infrastructure across the country. The company now operates more than 100 sales and service points nationwide.
Chinese Automakers Expand Market Presence
MG’s growth comes alongside a broader expansion of Chinese automotive brands in Mexico. According to data reported by INEGI, two additional manufacturers—Zeekr and Lynk & Co—were incorporated into the agency’s official reporting system beginning in January. Both brands are part of Geely Holding Group and together reported sales of 304 vehicles in February, a volume comparable to that recorded by Volvo during the same month.
New market entrants have reported rapid expansion. Geely increased sales by 249% year over year in February, while Jetour and Soueast recorded a combined sales increase of 775%.
Chinese manufacturers continued gaining market share even after the implementation of higher import tariffs this year. Data from INEGI show that Chinese brands sold 14,978 vehicles in January 2026, representing 11.3% of the Mexican automotive market. The figure excludes sales from BYD, which does not report monthly results, and Chirey, which did not submit data for the period.
Compared with January 2025, when Chinese brands sold 11,627 vehicles, sales increased by nearly 29%. Industry analysts note that more than 20 Chinese automotive brands now operate in Mexico, reflecting an expansion that has accelerated over the past five years.
The broader Mexican automotive market also posted record results at the start of the year. Light-vehicle sales reached 250,076 units between January and February 2026, representing a 4.4% increase compared with the 239,555 vehicles sold during the same period in 2025. The increase corresponds to an additional 10,521 vehicles and represents the highest first-bimester sales level since official records began in 2005.
