Nissan Mexico welcomed Ashwani Gupta, COO, Nissan Motor Corporation. The A1 and A2 assembly plants in Aguascalientes hosted the event that aimed to reinforce the relevance that the country has for the automaker.

“It is always a pleasure to welcome our COO, Ashwani Gupta, and we are proud to be able to demonstrate the incredible work of our employees at Nissan Mexicana to deliver vehicles that are redefining the future of mobility in Mexico and the world," said José Román, President and Director General, Nissan Mexicana and NIBU.

The objective was to check on the progress made by the US$700 million investment planned for the next three years, focused on the assembly plants in Aguascalientes, as reported by MBN. The target of the investment is to improve the manufacturing facilities, personnel training and advanced automation, all of this to make the Japanese automaker more competitive so it can remain a leader around the globe.

The A1 and A2 plants in Aguascalientes manufacture the Nissan March, Nissan Kicks, Nissan Versa and Nissan Sentra, which are among the top-selling vehicles on the automaker roster. “With more than 6 million units sold in the first 60 years of the brand’s history in the country, today, there is no doubt about the importance and value that Mexico has for Nissan globally,” said Román.

“Mexico plays an important role within Nissan's global operations, both as one of the main markets for vehicle sales and as an export hub for dozens of markets around the world. This US$700 million investment will ensure that we remain leaders in Mexico, while delivering cutting-edge vehicles and technology that excite our customers around the world,” Jérémie Papin, Member of the Board, Nissan Americas, explained.

Electromobility is in every automaker's radar, including Nissan. In July 2022, the company announced ‌the arrival of e-POWER technology to the country to strengthen its Ambition 2030 plan that considers a 50 percent electrification across the brand’s lineup by the end of this decade. “These are transformative times for the automotive industry and a new era of Nissan Mexicana starts with the arrival of Nissan Kicks e-POWER. With this technology, we reaffirm, once again, our commitment to democratizing electric vehicles and offering a new era in the driving experience,” said José Román, as reported by MBN.

With these actions, the Japanese company seeks to compete in the Mexican EV market by offering one of its best-selling vehicles in the country, highlighted Rodrigo Centeno, Marketing Director, Nissan Mexicana.
