Nissan, Honda Innovate in Mexican Automotive Market

Nissan Mexicana Celebrates 15 Years of Leadership in Sales

Nissan Mexicana celebrates 15 years as the leader in Mexican auto sales. The Japanese company’s operations in Mexico are its fourth largest globally. Through innovation, Nissan Mexicana has maintained its dominant position in the Mexican market despite challenges. Honda to Introduce Two HEV Models to the Mexican Market

During a conference, Honda introduced the hybrid-electric vehicle (HEV) CR-V Touring HEV and the CR-V 2023 to the Mexican market. The company said that it will gradually introduce the models in the country, starting with the CR-V Touring. With these, the company aims to take the first step toward the electrification of the automotive industry in Mexico.   "The arrival of advanced Honda hybrids is a firm step toward electrification, with hybrid models in our current product portfolio that are in a league of their own," said Fernando Maqueo, Marketing and Public Relations Manager, Honda. 

 

 

Investments in Electric Mobility Increase

Automakers and suppliers confirm through increasing investments announced for the country that nearshoring has turned Mexico into a key country for electric mobility. The country is expected to be one of the leading producers of hybrid and electric cars, trailing only b hind Brazil in Latin America. So far, Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, BMW, Stellantis, Tesla and Jetour have announced major investments in electric mobility in Mexico.

 

Automotive Production Returns to Pre-pandemic Levels

Mexico has recovered its pre-pandemic production levels in the automotive industry. However, this year, the country has reached levels not seen since 2019, as assemblers have driven a clear balance in the first three months of the year. From January to March 2023, 922,177 units were assembled in Mexico, increasing by 8.6% compared to 1Q22.

 

The Automotive Sector Is Key to the USMCA

Senator Claudia Ruiz Massieu invited members of the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) to a meeting to examine the opportunities and problems that the USMCA will present in the years to come. Ruiz pointed out that Mexico's economic development and integration with North America are significantly influenced by the automotive industry. "The sector saw a recovery last year, and the forecast is promising for 2023. This is good news for the national economy," said Ruiz.
