Nissan Mexicana started production of the new Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, with which the company wants to “continue to redefine the future of electric mobility.” This is the Japanese automaker's second model to arrive in Mexico with the new electric motorization.

The announcement was made during the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race, which took place in Mexico City during the second week of 2023. Through the Nissan e-Power technology, the automaker aims to achieve its Ambition 2030 plan, which plans for a 50% mix of electrification across the Nissan and INFINITI brands worldwide. The e-POWER technology provides advantages that only the blend of an electric engine can offer, says Rodrigo Centento, Senior Director Marketing, Nissan Mexicana.

"We continue to redefine the future of electric mobility, now with Nissan X-Trail e-POWER, an iconic SUV of the brand that has won the hearts of Mexicans thanks to its perfect balance between reliability, power, safety and comfort, which make it an ideal vehicle for family trips," says Centento.

This technology plays an essential role in the company's road towards electromobility. In this vehicle, while the electric motor provides thrust to the wheels, the combustion engine is responsible for powering the battery. José Román, President and Director General, Nissan Mexicana and NIBU, highlighted that these technologies mark the beginning of a new era within Nissan Mexicana, as reported by MBN.

“These are transformative times for the automotive industry and a new era of Nissan Mexicana starts with the arrival of Nissan Kicks e-POWER. With this technology, we reaffirm, once again, our commitment to democratizing electric vehicles and offering a new era in the driving experience,” says Román.

The Japanese company has been the favorite of Mexico’s light vehicle segment for over a decade. In 2022, Nissan remained as the best-selling automotive company in the Mexican market, with a total of 189,940 new light vehicles sales, as reported by MBN. Mexico also plays an essential role in the company’s global agenda, as the A1 and A2 plants in Aguascalientes manufacture some of Nissan’s top-selling vehicles.

“Mexico plays an important role within Nissan's global operations, both as one of the main markets for vehicle sales and as an export hub for dozens of markets around the world. This US$700 million investment will ensure that we remain leaders in Mexico, while delivering cutting-edge vehicles and technology that excite our customers around the world,” explained Jérémie Papin, Member of the Board, Nissan Americas, as reported by MBN.
