Nissan Mexicana has expanded its digital retail strategy by listing its portfolio of new vehicles on Mercado Libre, allowing consumers across Mexico to browse models, compare versions, and connect directly with the company's network of 279 authorized dealerships. The initiative expands an existing partnership between the automaker and the e-commerce platform, reflecting the growing role of digital marketplaces in Mexico's automotive retail sector as manufacturers seek to engage buyers earlier in the purchasing process.
The announcement follows similar moves by other automakers, including Stellantis, which recently began offering new vehicles through Mercado Libre. The platform has become an increasingly important digital sales channel as online automotive retail gains momentum in Mexico. According to IMARC Group, Mexico's online car purchasing market reached US$4.7 billion in 2025 and is projected to expand to US$11.6 billion by 2034, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.88%.
Under the agreement, users can explore Nissan's complete lineup of new vehicles, including SUVs, sedans, and pickup trucks, compare available trims, and select their preferred dealership to begin the purchasing process. Once a customer submits an inquiry, the selected dealer provides information on financing, promotions, and vehicle availability while completing the transaction through Nissan's authorized retail network.
The digital storefront includes models such as the Nissan Versa, Sentra, March, Kicks, X-Trail, Pathfinder, NP300, Frontier, and Urvan, covering the company's passenger and commercial vehicle portfolio.
Mariano Nunes, Head of VIS Motors, Mercado Libre Mexico, said the partnership reflects changing consumer purchasing behavior.
"Nissan's arrival on Mercado Libre responds to a real change in how Mexicans search for and decide to purchase a vehicle. Today, millions of people use our platform to compare models, explore options, and connect with dealer networks, and we want that process to become increasingly simple and complete. Having the official store of a leading brand like Nissan strengthens our offering for consumers throughout that purchasing journey."
Mercado Libre said its automotive category currently attracts more than 7 million monthly users and generates up to 20 million vehicle-related searches each month, making it one of the country's largest digital channels for automotive purchase research.
For Nissan, the partnership expands its omnichannel strategy by integrating digital research with its physical dealer network.
"Our goal is always to go beyond what is expected and meet customer needs," said Humberto Gomez, Senior Marketing Director, Nissan Mexicana. "With 18 years of market leadership in Mexico, we have the responsibility to make people's lives easier and stay aligned with changing consumer habits. Mercado Libre is an important partner in bringing our vehicle portfolio closer to consumers anytime, anywhere."
The initiative builds on a commercial relationship established in 2023, when Nissan launched its official parts and accessories store on Mercado Libre. By adding new vehicles to the platform, both companies are extending the partnership from aftersales products into full-vehicle retail while maintaining dealership participation throughout the sales process.
