Nissan, PROFECO Recall 21,000 Magnite Units for Safety Issues
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) and Nissan Mexico have launched an indefinite review campaign affecting 21,924 units of the 2025 Nissan Magnite. The initiative comes after two defects were identified that could compromise vehicle safety, specifically involving the braking system and high-beam headlights.
Announced on Aug. 23, the campaign addresses two separate issues across different production batches. “Although only three reports related to these defects were recorded as of July 30, the potential risks warrant urgent attention,” PROFECO said. Nissan will contact affected owners directly via phone, email, SMS, and postal notifications.
The first issue affects more than 6,800 Magnite Advance units. Engineers found a current overload in the high-beam headlight connector, which can overheat, melt, and fail over time. PROFECO noted, “Driving with inoperable high beams, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions, significantly reduces the driver’s field of vision and increases accident risk.” Nissan will reconfigure the Intelligent Power Distribution Module (IPDM) and replace both headlight connectors at no cost.
The second defect affects over 15,000 units and involves insufficient clearance between the ABS brake line and the turbo’s heat shield. Vibrations can cause the brake line to rub against the shield, leading to wear, punctures, and potential brake fluid leaks. PROFECO warned, “A leak in the braking system can result in partial or complete loss of braking capacity, extending stopping distances and increasing collision risk.” Nissan will inspect and adjust the gap, replacing any damaged brake lines free of charge.
PROFECO reminded consumers of their right to safe, properly functioning products under the Federal Consumer Protection Law and provided channels for reporting service access issues: Teléfono del Consumidor at 55 5568 8722 and 800 468 8722, as well as official social media accounts.
