The Nissan Versa, which combines reliability and performance, is now the second-most sold vehicle in Mexico. Having been manufactured in the country since 2011, the Versa has fast become a lynchpin of Nissan’s brand strategy as it has helped the OEM maintain its sales leadership for five consecutive years. From the launch of the 2012 model to March 2014, over 300,000 Versa units have been built of which 30% supplied the domestic market and the rest being exported to the US, Canada, Argentina, and Brazil.
The new Versa is pushing the envelope in the subcompact segment and is solidifying its market position by integrating more technology and features in its Sense, Advance, and Exclusive versions. Its fuel economy stands at an EPAestimated of 31mpg for city use and 40mpg on highways. The Versa offers predictable handling and a quiet, comfortable ride. Nissan claims that the Versa has the most ample space in its class, which becomes evident in the rear set legroom. The Exclusive model offers additional options include a multi-view camera, Bluetooth hands-free phone integration, navigation system, push-button start, and keyless entry. The Versa is powered by a 1.6-litre fourcylinder engine that produces 109hp. Likewise, smaller nozzles will deliver a finer spray to help achieve a stable combustion. A five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive are standard and a four-speed automatic transmission is optional on the base sedan model. Safety features were not overlooked, as the Versa comes equipped with ABS, stability control, and front, side, and side curtain airbags. High efficiency remains key to Versa’s popularity, offering a practicality with a high degree of comfort and technological amenities make it the perfect combination for the life of an average Mexican. The 2015 Versa will command a price upwards of US$14,039 in the domestic market and is the new generation of the model to incorporate Nissan’s innovative Pure Drive platform that focuses on sustainability, efficient mobility, and reduction of C02 emissions
