Mexico’s consumer protection agency (PROFECO) issued an alert for at least 1,375 Honda and Acura vehicles due to a passenger-seat sensor fault that may affect airbag operation. The issue involves the internal circuitry of the weight sensor, which can trigger the airbag warning light even when the system is inactive, potentially causing driver confusion.

The recall affects five models: 2021 Honda Pilot, 2021 Honda Odyssey, 2021 Acura RDX, 2020–2022 Acura MDX, and 2021 Acura TLX. Honda Mexico confirmed coordination with Profeco to address the issue. “Owners will be contacted by email or phone to schedule a service appointment at an authorized Honda or Acura dealer,” the automaker said. Affected units will be inspected, and the sensor will be repaired or replaced at no cost if necessary.

The recall was initiated on July 24 and has no defined end date, remaining active until all affected vehicles are inspected. As of July 30, 2025, Honda Mexico reported no accidents or damages linked to the fault. Honda’s Celaya plant, inaugurated in 2014 with an US$800 million investment, continues production of the new-generation HR-V and has recently added the Acura ADX SUV to its manufacturing line.
