The inauguration of the first edition of the International Automotive Supply Summit in Queretaro marks a pivotal moment for the state's automotive sector. With a significant contribution to the manufacturing output, robust export figures and a focus on fostering entrepreneurship and a skilled workforce, Queretaro is poised for further growth and success.

The International Automotive Supply Summit aims to propel the growth of the state's largest industry, attracting over 2,000 companies from 12 countries and 26 states within Mexico. The automotive sector contributes significantly to the state's manufacturing output and export figures, so the summit holds great promise for fostering business opportunities and strengthening supply chains. "Through this event, we are working together for the future of our industry," says Francisco González Díaz, Executive President, INA.

Manufacturing production in the transportation industry exhibited a remarkable 7.7% growth in 1Q23 compared to 2022. With a 25% contribution to the state's total manufacturing output, the automotive sector holds immense value. In March 2023, the automotive sector's sales reached MX$10 billion (US$500 million), further reinforcing its significance within Queretaro's economy. “Queretaro holds a prominent position in the automotive and auto parts sector,” says Mauricio Kuri González, Governor of Queretaro.

The state is a crucial driving force for Mexico's automotive and auto parts industry, boasting over 100 companies, nine educational institutions and nine R&D centers dedicated to this sector. The region has established itself as a hub for international suppliers and buyers, further enhancing its importance within the global automotive landscape.

The automotive industry finds itself in a transformative phase with the emergence of new trends, particularly in electromobility. Queretaro, in alignment with the objectives of the International Automotive Supply Summit, recognizes these changing dynamics. It aims to capitalize on the vast opportunities presented by the industry's evolution, promoting sustainable practices and innovation. “You can rely on Queretaro and the Ministry of Sustainable Development for the strengthening of the automotive sector,” says Marco Antonio Del Prete, Queretaro’s Minister of Sustainable Development.

While energy remains a primary challenge for the country’s manufacturing sectors, Queretaro has taken significant strides to assist entrepreneurs. An upcoming project, yet to be announced, is poised to provide valuable support to businesses by addressing energy-related concerns, explains Kuri. This proactive approach highlights Queretaro's commitment to fostering a favorable business environment and facilitating sustainable growth in the automotive industry.

Queretaro is also actively promoting and supporting the entrepreneurial spirit to strengthen the region's economic fabric. Additionally, Queretaro places great emphasis on cultivating a highly skilled workforce, catering to the evolving needs of the industry. “Queretaro serves as the model state that we aspire to see throughout the country,” says Rene Mendoza, Coordinator, CAPIM.
