Chinese automaker Soueast will begin operations in Mexico on June 18 through a commercial partnership with Jetour, says the company. Jetour, which entered the Mexican market in 2023, is undergoing a structural expansion and will operate 45 dealerships nationwide. Service and customer support operations will be shared between the two brands.

Soueast’s entry into Mexico is part of a global strategy to expand its presence to 80 countries, establish over 10 manufacturing sites, build a network of 1,500 sales outlets, and sell 500,000 vehicles by the end of 2029, according to company statements.

The company will introduce its lineup of urban vehicles equipped with its proprietary Super Hybrid technology, which allows for a combined driving range of over 1,000km and more than 100km in fully electric mode. The hybrid system is built around a 150kW P3 electromotor, which reaches a maximum efficiency of 98% and features a design that reduces overall weight by 16% compared to conventional alternatives.

This electric motor works in conjunction with a 1.5 TD turbocharged four-cylinder internal combustion engine, which offers a thermal efficiency of 44.5%. The hybrid system is further supported by a 19.4kWh battery, enabling multiple operational modes:

  • EV Mode, which allows more than 100km of fully electric driving per charge (NEDC standard).

  • Parallel HEV Mode uses both electric and internal combustion engines simultaneously, where the combustion engine propels the vehicle at steady speeds, while the electric motor supports during fluctuations.

  • Series HEV Mode uses the gasoline engine to generate electricity, with the electric motor handling propulsion, also referred to as extended range mode. This setting aims to optimize battery charge and energy efficiency.

“The integration of Soueast into our dealer network is aligned with our broader business strategy for the Mexican market,” says Johnny Fang, CEO, Jetour Soueast Mexico. Fang emphasizes the shared infrastructure as a means to accelerate service and customer support capabilities.

The models and final pricing for the Mexican market are expected to be revealed at the launch event on June 18.
