Tesla Issues Fifth Cybertruck Recall, Covering 27,185 Units
Tesla has announced a recall of 27,185 Cybertrucks, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This follows a previous recall in June, which reported that nearly 11,700 Cybertruck units had been sold. The latest recall suggests that Tesla has more than doubled its sales since then. This is the fifth recall for the Cybertruck within less than a year of its release.
According to S&P Global Mobility, Tesla delivered 5,175 Cybertrucks in July alone, representing roughly one-fifth of the overall sales in the company’s “other models” category for the entire quarter.
The recall affects all Cybertrucks, which were first delivered in November 2023. The issue involves a delay in the boot-up of the vehicle’s rear-view camera, potentially impairing the driver's rear visibility and increasing the risk of a crash, as reported by Quartz. Tesla estimates that about 1% of all Cybertrucks currently on the road are affected by this problem. As of September 25, the company indicated that it was not aware of any collisions, injuries, or fatalities related to this defect. A software update has already been released to resolve the issue.
Tesla recently announced its third-quarter production and delivery results. The company sold 439,975 Model 3 compact cars and Model Y SUVs between April and June, surpassing the expected figure of 436,000 vehicles. This marks an increase from the 435,059 cars delivered during the same period last year.
In the latest trading session, Tesla shares experienced a 1.3% decline in pre-market trading.
