Q: What were the keys to Transtek to become a relevant player in vehicle logistics?

A: One hundred percent of our activities are focused on the automotive sector, particularly in unit transportation from OEM manufacturing plants to dealerships. We are a young family company founded in 2006 and have a team with broad experience in automotive logistics.

The automotive sector is exclusive. When we entered the market there were only a few players in this niche. Our efforts and capabilities allowed Nissan to trust us with special deliveries of platform cranes. Vehicle transportation demands on-time deliveries, which is not easy. Today, we work with Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Audi, Infiniti, and Renault, with coverage across the country. The key to our growth has been our service and our customer-centered focus. If service diminishes, state-of-the-art technology and equipment are all for naught, particularly in logistics.

Q: What opportunities will USMCA bring to Transtek?

A: With USMCA, the industry will grow and we need to be prepared. We have expanded our business to include additional services for the automotive sector, including metal forming processes such as machining, bending, fine blanking, cutting, and welding. This is a window we need to take advantage of.

We are a country of great opportunities in many sectors, not only in automotive. But investors in logistics need to be clear about one thing: ROI will come but not like it did before. Income will provide steady growth for different companies but not in the largest amounts. The benefits will be more evident over the long term. Companies will continue to need to transport their goods throughout the country. The key is to continue to provide a good service. For instance, part of our added value is in our customized delivery solutions. For one customer in the Puerto Vallarta area, we needed to design a system that provided more efficient deliveries to dealerships in the area. We designed a new kind of vehicle structure to transport cars in small numbers. These structures are entirely our design and have reduced costs considerably. This is the result of our experience studying our competitors, not only in Mexico but also in China and the US.

There is room to be creative and grow. Recently, we began to transport vehicles to the US. We did not want to compete against trains but now we are. If you are willing to take up challenges, they can easily be overcome.

Q: How do you tackle ongoing insecurity concerns?

A: We have tracking systems for the vehicles and we are aware of common signs that can provide clues for when a vehicle is at risk. We work closely with Omnitracs to minimize the risks while providing our customers with different systems to keep track of their vehicles in real-time. I believe that security has improved in recent years. There are problems, yes, but it is a matter of keeping track of your fleets. Besides, we stay in close contact with the federal authorities.

Q: What is behind Transtek’s success?

A: Our success in the industry is the result of being stubborn and persistent in our business. When we began, I personally took 10 hours to load our first job, now it takes less than an hour. That shows how much we have grown. It is a dream come true to now have a really competitive fleet.
