Xiaomi SU7 Ultra EV Hits 10,000 Sales in 2 Hours, Beats Forecasts
Xiaomi has exceeded its projections for the SU7 Ultra, an electric vehicle (EV) unveiled on Feb. 27. Initially forecasting sales of 10,000 units across 2025, the company reached this milestone within just two hours. CEO Lei Jun highlighted the vehicle's competitive pricing and performance compared to Porsche and Tesla models.
Customers could secure their reservation with a refundable deposit of CNY¥20,000 (US$2,823) or a non-refundable deposit of CNY¥40,000 (US$5,617) for priority delivery.
The SU7 Ultra’s pricing was a key factor in its demand:
-
Base model: US$73,250 (significantly below the expected US$111,960)
-
Racing package: US$87,019
-
Nürburgring edition: US$111,842
-
Earlier reservation pricing in October was 34.97% higher, making the final pricing an attractive surprise for customers.
Xiaomi has positioned the SU7 Ultra as a high-performance alternative to luxury EVs. The vehicle boasts:
-
Three electric motors
-
Carbon-ceramic brakes with Akebono calipers
-
Pirelli performance tires
-
A 93.7 kWh battery with a 629 km range (CLTC cycle)
-
Fast-charging capability, reaching 80% in just 11 minutes
-
The SU7 Ultra also set a new Nürburgring lap record, surpassing the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT.
CEO Lei Jun emphasized the Racing package's value, offering superior performance at a fraction of the Taycan Turbo GT's US$275,723 price tag. The base model also competes directly with the Tesla Model S Plaid, priced at CNY¥111,842 in China.
Xiaomi’s initial 2025 production capacity for the SU7 Ultra is already sold out. In 2024, Xiaomi doubled production capacity for the standard SU7, selling 139,000 units. Similar adjustments may be necessary to meet demand for the Ultra model.
