Zeekr Enters Mexico’s EV Market
Zeekr, a new entrant in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, has officially launched its operations in Mexico. The company aims to make a significant impact in the growing EV market by focusing on advanced technology and premium vehicle features, as reported by Publimetro.
According to Edgar Suárez, Country Manager, Zeekr Mexico, the company is introducing its vehicles with an emphasis on innovation and sustainability. "We are entering the Mexican market with vehicles that feature advanced technology at a competitive price point. We believe our models offer a high-quality experience that is new to this market," Suárez stated.
Zeekr's initial strategy includes establishing six dealerships across Mexico. The company plans to expand further to locations in Puebla and Merida by the end of this year and is considering future expansion into Chihuahua or Tijuana. Suárez mentioned, "Our goal is to complete the second phase of our expansion by the end of this year and move forward with the third phase in 2025."
The Zeekr lineup features two models: the Zeekr 001 and the Zeekr X. The Zeekr 001 is noted for its high performance and advanced technology, while the Zeekr X, a crossover SUV, is designed for urban environments and includes features such as pet mode and gesture controls.
Zeekr vehicles are equipped with 12 cameras and sensors for enhanced situational awareness. They also have high safety ratings from Euro NCAP and come with features such as Yamaha sound systems and augmented reality displays.
The company aims to sell 400 units by the end of this year and projects increasing sales to between 1,600 and 1,700 units by 2025. Despite the upcoming 15% tariff on light vehicles starting in October, Zeekr has adjusted its business plan to manage this cost without affecting customer prices. "We anticipated the tariff impact and have adjusted our pricing strategy accordingly," Suárez explained.
Zeekr is positioning itself in the premium segment of the EV market and plans to compete with established brands like Tesla and BMW. "We are part of the broader EV ecosystem and focus on delivering a high-quality customer experience," Suárez added.
Looking ahead, Suárez is optimistic about the growth of electromobility in Mexico. With increasing infrastructure and rising EV sales, he expects the market to expand significantly in the coming years. "We anticipate a substantial rise in EV sales in Mexico in the near future," he concluded in," he said in an interview with Publimetro.
