ZKW Group started the construction of its third plant expansion in Guanajuato, Mexico. On May 20, 2022, the Austrian company laid the cornerstone for a new facility where it will build headlamps and center lamps for BMW, Ford and GM electric vehicles and SUVs.

The company started working in Mexico in 2016, when it first opened its doors. “Having ZKW here represents a source of pride and an opportunity for our young men and women, especially in innovation. The company will hire highly qualified personnel who have the desire to transcend, to move forward, especially with this company, as you do at an international level,” said the then Governor of Guanajuato Miguel Márquez Márquez during the plant’s inauguration event.

According to the Guanajuato administration, ZKW’s investment reaches over US$3.2 billion, which represents more than 35,600 jobs openings. Its new expansion will add US$102 million and the creation of 830 new jobs. The company expects the new investment to total US$255 million in a period of three more years.

Diego Sinhue Rodríguez, current Governor of Guanajuato, highlighted the importance of private investment to create new jobs and to support families, especially during the last few years of uncertainty: “More jobs mean there is a greater opportunity to have a stable income, social security and a better quality of life.”

According to Wolfgang Muhri, COO, ZKW, serial production at ZKW’s plant in Mexico started in 2017. From the beginning, the company had an area of R&D and its production division for headlights, fog lamps and auxiliary lamps. On Nov. 13, 2019, ZKW started working on the second phase of the plant, which featured an industrial building of 19,000m2. Nowadays, this facility is already in an important stage of growth and production due to the new projects, highlights Muri.

“We can now see remarkably fast growth for our business and our organization. This is only possible through a good relationship with the client, a strong team and the important support of the state of Guanajuato,” said Muri.
