The agreement, effective April 1, transfers distribution of Evonik's Care Solutions and Active Oxygens product lines to the Mexican specialty chemicals firm, in an environment where the country's personal care market is projected to grow from US$16.82 billion in 2025 to US$17.64 billion in 2026, driven by rising urban incomes, nearshoring-linked manufacturing, and a fast-expanding sustainable formulations segment.
First Quality Chemicals has announced the strengthening of its strategic alliance with Evonik, the German specialty chemicals giant, following its designation as authorized distributor in Mexico for two of the company's core business lines: Care Solutions and Active Oxygens. The agreement, effective April 1, 2026, expands First Quality Chemicals' portfolio significantly and positions the company as a key commercial bridge between Evonik's global technology platform and the Mexican personal care and household care manufacturing sector.
The Care Solutions line covers a full range of formulation ingredients used in serums, mascaras, lip products, cleansers, shampoos, intimate care, and related personal and household care categories. The distribution mandate was previously held by another multinational distributor; Evonik made the decision to transfer it to First Quality Chemicals based on the company's track record, its organizational culture, and its commercial capabilities in the Mexican market.
For First Quality Chemicals, the deal represents one of the most significant expansions in its history. The company, which has built its business as a technical distributor connecting global specialty chemical producers with Mexico's manufacturing industries, already held Evonik distribution mandates for coating additives and performance additives before this latest addition. The personal care and household care lines bring a new and commercially dynamic sector into the portfolio.
What Evonik Brings to the Formulator
Evonik's Care Solutions business unit delivers what the company describes as "sustainable, high-performance and innovative solutions" to companies developing beauty, personal care, cleaning, and related applications. Its portfolio spans active ingredients, functional additives, and advanced delivery systems covering skin care, hair care, oral care, color cosmetics, and household cleaning, a breadth that makes it a relevant supplier for virtually every category of consumer-facing formulated product. The Active Oxygens line operates on a distinct technology axis, versatile oxidizing agents used across disinfection, bleaching, and antimicrobial applications.
Evonik's Active Oxygens division has committed to becoming climate neutral by 2040, with a direct-production program called Way to GO2 aimed at transforming hydrogen peroxide manufacturing by replacing fossil-based inputs with renewable electricity and green hydrogen. That commitment aligns with the direction Mexico's personal care manufacturing sector is increasingly being pushed by global brand owners seeking verified sustainability credentials in their supply chains.
Mexico's Personal Care Market: The Commercial Context
The timing of the distribution agreement is commercially well-chosen. The Mexico beauty and personal care market is projected to reach US$17.64 billion in 2026, up from US$16.82 billion in 2025, and is forecast to grow to US$22.36 billion by 2031 at a compound annual growth rate of 4.86%. Demand is being driven by rising disposable incomes among urban households, Gen Z's digital purchasing behavior, and the nearshoring of manufacturing capacity that is reinforcing supply chain resilience. Foreign direct investment in the sector rose 43% in 2024, confirming Mexico's pull as a regional production hub.
Within that broader growth story, the sustainable and natural formulations segment is gaining the most momentum. Natural and organic products already hold 10% value share in Mexico's personal care market, and 84% of consumers surveyed say they are willing to pay more for sustainable items. For ingredient distributors, this shift is commercially meaningful: sustainable active agents and green chemistry inputs carry higher margins and require greater technical selling expertise than commodity ingredients, which is precisely the segment of the market that First Quality Chemicals has been positioning for.
Mexico's household cleaners market, the other primary destination for Evonik's Active Oxygens products under the new distribution agreement, is projected to reach US$807.83 million by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 3.74% from 2025. The rising health and hygiene awareness among Mexican consumers, combined with a growing preference for eco-friendly and biodegradable cleaning formulations, is driving reformulation activity across the sector.
First Quality Chemicals as a Local Technical Partner
What distinguishes the agreement from a simple logistics change is the technical dimension of First Quality Chemicals' commercial model. The company describes its role as going "far beyond distribution," operating as a bridge between global specialty chemical innovators and the industries shaping Mexico's future, translating decades of global research and engineering into accessible, local industrial solutions.
The Evonik mandate adds Germany's most significant specialty chemical platform to that partnership network and gives Mexican personal care and household care manufacturers direct access, through a local technical partner, to a portfolio that is simultaneously expanding at the global level. Evonik recently unveiled SPHINOX Vively, an advanced designer sphingolipid for skin vitality applications, and presented a full range of new active ingredients, delivery systems, and sustainability-focused formulation tools at in-cosmetics Global in Paris in April 2026.
