Mexico, China to Expand Cooperation in AI and Supercomputing
Mexico and China are opening a new stage of scientific and technological cooperation, placing AI, supercomputing, robotics, electromobility, and technology transfer at the center of a bilateral agenda that increasingly connects government, academia, and industry. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on scientific, technological and innovation cooperation during the ninth meeting of the Subcommission on Science and Technology of the Permanent Mexico-China Binational Commission.
Mexico Examines AI to Preserve Cultural Archives
The preservation of cultural memory is moving into a new technological phase as archives across Ibero-America examine how AI can help protect and provide access to sound, photographic, audiovisual, and textual collections. The discussion is taking place at the “Ibero-American Archives Meeting: Artificial Intelligence in Document Preservation,” organized by Mexico’s Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Ibero-American States (SEGIB) and regional archival programs.
OpenAI Launch GPT-6 Astra to Accelerate Enterprise Workflows
OpenAI is introducing GPT-6 Astra, a frontier model designed to move AI further from generating responses toward executing complex work. The model combines reasoning, computer use, browsing, software engineering, and professional workflow capabilities, while placing greater emphasis on whether an AI system can operate within the boundaries defined by a user or organization.
Students Overreliance on Chatbots Lead to a Cognitive Surrender
Getting the right answer from a chatbot can create the illusion of learning, but it can also trigger cognitive surrender, where students fall back on AI at the first hint of struggle, reveals the Report of MIT's Ad Hoc Committee on AI Use in Teaching, Learning, and Research Training.
USDA to Test Satellites, AI for Crop Estimates
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) will launch a pilot project using satellite imagery, geospatial tools, and crop models to improve its estimates of US crop acreage and yields, as the agency seeks to address growing concerns from farmers, grain traders, and economists over the reliability of its agricultural data.
