Apple and Google have initiated a multi-year partnership to integrate Gemini AI models into the forthcoming evolution of Siri. This collaboration uses Google cloud technology to power Apple Foundation Models and Apple Intelligence features scheduled for deployment in late 2026.
The partnership focuses on bridging the gap between on-device processing and the high-computational requirements of large language models. Apple determined that the scalability of the infrastructure provided by Google is necessary to support the complex reasoning tasks required for the next generation of its digital assistant.
"After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we are excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users," reads an official statement by both companies.
This decision follows a period where Apple remained on the sidelines of the Generative AI sector while competitors such as Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft invested billions of dollars in infrastructure. By selecting Gemini 3, Apple integrates a model architecture that demonstrates superior performance in 2025 compared to rival systems, says the company. The corporation intends to maintain its privacy standards by running these models through Private Cloud Compute, a system designed to process data without storing it on external servers.
Market Dynamics
The announcement coincides with a significant shift in the valuation of the largest technology companies in the United States. Following the news of the partnership, the market capitalization of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, reached US$4 trillion. This milestone allowed Alphabet to surpass Apple as the second most valuable company in the world, a position it had not held since 2019. The stock of Alphabet surged 65% during 2025, outperforming its peers among the so-called Magnificent Seven.
This financial growth is attributed to the successful launch of Gemini 3 and the Nano Banana image generation tool, which bolstered investor confidence. In contrast, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, faced a colder reception from the market after the release of GPT-5 failed to meet performance expectations. Consequently, Google was able to position its cloud unit as a primary growth engine. Sundar Pichai, CEO, Google, reported in October 2025 that the cloud segment signed more contracts worth over US$1 billion during 3Q25 than in the combined previous two years.
Apple faces increasing pressure to deliver a functional upgrade for Siri after the corporation delayed the product launch originally planned for 2025. Although Apple works with OpenAI through ChatGPT, the integration of Gemini represents a more fundamental shift in the underlying architecture of its operating systems. Apple says that the existing agreement with OpenAI remains unchanged, as Gemini will focus on the foundational logic of Apple Intelligence.
Future Projections
The agreement between Apple and Google is estimated to be worth about US$1 billion annually, according to reports from Bloomberg. This revenue stream adds to the billions of dollars Google already pays Apple to remain the default search engine on the iPhone. While this partnership was previously scrutinized due to antitrust litigation, recent judicial rulings have provided a clearer path for continued collaboration.
In September 2025, a judge ruled against the forced divestiture of the Chrome browser business, which allowed Google to maintain its integrated ecosystem and pursue large-scale deals. However, the company continues to navigate legal challenges regarding its advertising business. A trial to determine remedies for an alleged monopoly in the online ad market began in September, the results of which could force the divestiture of specific divisions in the future.
Google has expanded its capacity by renting out self-developed AI chips to external customers. These chips, which were previously reserved for internal operations, have enabled Google Cloud to achieve a 34% revenue increase. The backlog of non-recognized sales contracts for the division rose to US$155 billion by the end of 3Q25. This infrastructure will support the heavy workloads generated by millions of iPhone users accessing Gemini-powered features.
The technical integration is expected to follow a phased rollout:
-
Initial testing of Apple Foundation Models will occur during 1H26.
-
The upgraded Siri interface will use Gemini 3 for multi-step query processing.
-
Full deployment to the global user base is anticipated for late 2026.
Apple and Google emphasize that Apple Intelligence will continue to prioritize on-device execution for simple tasks. Only complicated requests that require extensive world knowledge or high-level reasoning will be redirected to the cloud-based Gemini models.
