Elon Musk Unveils Grok 3, the “Smartest AI on Earth”

Elon Musk has confirmed the launch of Grok 3, the new version of the chatbot developed by xAI. Musk claims that Grok 3, which promises significant advances in speed, reasoning, and real-time capabilities, is "the smartest AI on Earth."

Speaking recently at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk highlighted that Grok 3 has proven to be an AI with exceptional reasoning capabilities. According to Musk, tests conducted so far show that Grok 3 outperforms all existing models. Musk says that the chatbot "is so smart it is scary." 

The announcement comes just after Musk, with the support of a consortium of investors, made a bid to acquire OpenAI for US$97.4 billion, an offer that was rejected by Sam Altman, President, OpenAI.

The AI market is booming, with companies such as Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI leading the way in innovation. Through Grok, xAI aims to deliver an AI model capable of understanding and solving problems with a unique perspective. Musk has stated that Grok's goal is to come to understand the nature of the universe. Since its launch in December 2024, Grok has been accessible to users of X, Musk's social networking platform, with limited availability to those without premium memberships. 

Immediate Impact

The announcement of the Grok 3 launch has impacted the cryptocurrency market. The token associated with Grok experienced an 82% increase in value following confirmation of the event, although the Grok token has no direct relationship to the development of xAI.

This phenomenon is not new, as the crypto market has reacted similarly to Musk-related projects, as happened with Dogecoin. However, analysts warn that despite the increase in the token's value, the sustainability of this growth is uncertain due to the lack of a clear use case for the token in the xAI ecosystem. According to MSN, the investment community is closely watching its performance, wondering whether Musk's AI will be able to establish itself as a serious competitor against established models such as OpenAI's GPT-4.

Musk's Influence and the Challenges for xAI

Despite the significant investment received by xAI, including contributions from giants such as Nvidia and AMD, the company still faces challenges in establishing itself as a leader in the AI market. As of today, xAI has failed to reach the user base of its larger competitors, which could limit its long-term impact on the market. However, Musk remains an influential figure with an undisputed ability to attract the attention of investors and the general public.

On the other hand, Musk's comments about Grok 3's political bias and the AI’s favorable response toward figures such as Donald Trump have raised controversy and speculation about the direction the model will take in terms of value alignment, Wired reports. Dan Hendrycks, Executive Director, Center for AI Safety, suggests that it might be possible to manipulate AI preferences to better reflect the views of certain political groups, although Musk has denied that this is the intention behind Grok.
