IBM has expanded its long-standing collaboration with Oracle, integrating the watsonx AI portfolio into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). This new phase in their partnership aims to enhance AI-driven productivity and efficiency across enterprise operations, enabling businesses to leverage hybrid cloud environments with multi-agent AI solutions.

“AI delivers the most impactful value when it works seamlessly across an entire business,” writes in a press release Greg Pavlik, Executive Vice President of AI and Data Management Services, OCI. “IBM and Oracle have been collaborating to drive customer success for decades, and our expanded partnership will provide customers new ways to help transform their businesses with AI.”

The move to incorporate IBM’s watsonx AI portfolio into OCI comes as organizations increasingly seek to deploy AI technologies across their operations. These advances aim to unlock new efficiencies and productivity gains by introducing AI agents that simplify processes and offer a unified interface for completing tasks. Multi-agent systems, which integrate with various business functions, are being recognized as crucial for transforming enterprise workflows, underscoring the importance of AI's role in optimizing business operations through enhanced scalability and integration.

One of the key solutions emerging from the partnership is IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate. This AI agent offering will be available on OCI starting in July and is designed to support multi-agent workflows across both Oracle and third-party applications. It integrates seamlessly with Oracle’s AI Agent Studio and OCI’s generative AI agents, providing organizations with a unified way to manage AI across diverse systems. The focus initially is on human resources, where these AI agents will perform critical inferencing tasks on OCI infrastructure, helping organizations optimize their HR processes.

Additionally, IBM’s AI agents will run on Red Hat OpenShift deployed on OCI, allowing customers to address regulatory and privacy concerns by utilizing a range of deployment options, including on-premises or in multicloud environments. This hybrid cloud approach aligns with the growing demand for flexible, scalable infrastructure that can meet specific business and regulatory needs.

Expanding Capabilities and Services

IBM’s Granite AI models will also be integrated into OCI via Oracle Data Science. These open-source models, available through OCI’s AI Quick Actions later this year, will offer businesses efficient, fit-for-purpose AI models tailored for specific use cases. The availability of these models in OCI expands the choices businesses have to deploy AI effectively within their existing cloud infrastructure.

IBM and Oracle plan to integrate IBM’s Envizi ESG Suite into OCI, a move expected to enhance enterprise sustainability efforts. The suite automates the capture and reporting of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data, an increasingly critical aspect of corporate operations.

IBM is also expanding its consulting services to assist clients in navigating the integration of AI agents across multi-cloud environments. Through IBM Consulting, businesses can leverage deep technical expertise to orchestrate their AI-driven ecosystems, transforming core business processes such as human resources and supply chain management. This service will enable organizations to scale their AI efforts across platforms, ensuring smooth transitions and maximizing the impact of AI on their operational efficiency.
