The data center industry saw significant growth in 2024, which was largely driven by the arrival of large cloud service providers and the expansion of established companies, says the Mexican Association of Data Centers (MEXDC). During the 2024 Ordinary General Assembly, the association presented the results of its second year of activities, highlighting sustained growth in the industry and the strengthening of strategic alliances with key sectors for the development of data centers in Mexico.

"Your participation and valuable contributions are the driving force behind our mission to foster excellence and innovation in support of the data center industry," said Amet Novillo, President, MEXDC, in his opening remarks.

Novillo also highlighted the development of technical tools such as the Mexico Data Center Market Report and studies on the efficient use of resources such as water, all aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, the four working commissions of the MEXDC — Energy, Sustainability, Regulation, and Talent — reached significant agreements in their respective areas, he added.

Collaboration activities include meetings with representatives from the governments of Mexico City, Nuevo Leon, Queretaro, Quintana Roo, Sonora and the State of Mexico, as well as international associations such as SPAIN DC, ABDC, and GERMAN DC. These efforts seek to position Mexico as a global benchmark in the data center industry.

Challenge for 2025: Investment and Regulatory Continuity

The change of federal administration in 2025 poses significant challenges for the technology industry, particularly in consolidating a favorable environment for investment, says Novillo. He adds that the MEXDC will focus on strengthening ties with decision-makers to ensure regulatory certainty and promote the sustainable development of the sector.

In 2024, the association collaborated with key entities such as the Ministry of Economy, CENACE, and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), while forging links with state governments and other national and international associations, says Adriana Rivera, Executive Director, MEXDC.

Cybersecurity and Sustainability

During the assembly, members highlighted the importance of investment in data protection and constant training to mitigate risks in an increasingly complex digital environment. Simultaneously, innovative strategies were discussed to minimize the environmental impact of data centers, a growing challenge for the industry.

To close the event, Novillo urged the associations’ 94 member companies to participate in its activities and maximize opportunities for collaboration. MEXDC is confident that, through the talent and commitment of its members, the sector will continue to expand and contribute significantly to Mexico's technological development.
