Snowflake, OpenAI Sign US$200 Million Enterprise AI Partnership
Snowflake and OpenAI have signed a multi-year, US$200 million partnership agreement to deliver advanced AI capabilities to global enterprise customers. The collaboration integrates OpenAI models directly into the Snowflake AI Data Cloud to facilitate the deployment of context-aware applications and agents, allowing more than 12,600 organizations to leverage proprietary data for deep research and instant insights.
The partnership addresses the growing demand for secure, governed environments where businesses can activate their most sensitive data using frontier intelligence. Sridhar Ramaswamy, CEO, Snowflake, says that by bringing OpenAI models to enterprise data, Snowflake enables organizations to build and deploy AI on top of their most valuable asset.
"Customers can now harness all their enterprise knowledge in Snowflake together with the world-class intelligence of OpenAI models, enabling them to build AI agents that are powerful, responsible, and trustworthy," says Ramaswamy. "Together, we are setting a new standard for AI innovation, helping businesses transform with confidence, while maintaining strong security and compliance standards."
Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications, OpenAI, says that Snowflake is a trusted platform that sits at the center of how enterprises manage and activate their most critical data. Simo says that this partnership brings advanced models directly into that environment to make it easier to deploy AI agents and applications.
The primary objective of this US$200 million agreement is to bridge the gap between theoretical AI capabilities and the practical value that corporations can generate today. As the adoption of agentic AI accelerates, global enterprises require infrastructure that supports high-impact intelligence at scale without moving data outside of governed perimeters.
Under the terms of this partnership, OpenAI serves as one of the primary model capabilities within the Snowflake platform. This allows organizations to move quickly and test new ideas without compromising on performance. Large-scale users, for example, Canva and WHOOP, already use these tools to empower their users and refine decision-making processes.
The integration of GPT-5.2 into Snowflake Intelligence provides every employee with a secure way to access and analyze organizational knowledge. By providing these tools through the Snowflake AI Data Cloud, the companies ensure that AI becomes a practical tool for daily business operations across sectors such as financial services, healthcare, and retail.
The technical deployment of this partnership focuses on four key areas: product innovation, interoperable agents, data democratization, and multimodal intelligence. These pillars ensure that the collaboration provides a comprehensive solution for modern data management.
Teams from both organizations will collaborate to introduce new features that utilize the OpenAI Apps SDK, AgentKit, and application programming interfaces. These tools support shared enterprise workflows and allow businesses to build state-of-the-art agents. These agents can reason over governed data and take specific actions across various tools and applications. Because these agents run directly on the data within Snowflake, they maintain a high level of security.
Snowflake Intelligence, powered by models such as GPT-5.2, serves as an enterprise intelligence agent. It allows business users to query and draw meaning from structured and unstructured data using only natural language. This system removes the technical barriers for employees who do not write code.
Furthermore, users can access Snowflake Cortex AI Functions to call OpenAI models directly using SQL. This enables the analysis of diverse data types, including structured rows and columns, technical text documents, digital images, and audio files.
Reliability is another critical component of the agreement. Snowflake provides a 99.99% uptime service-level agreement to ensure that AI initiatives remain undisrupted. The Snowflake Horizon Catalog provides the necessary governance and responsible AI controls to protect proprietary information.
The partnership also includes an internal exchange of technology. Snowflake uses ChatGPT Enterprise to improve employee productivity and streamline internal workflows. Conversely, OpenAI employs the Snowflake platform as its secure data environment for experiment tracking, analytics, and testing. This mutual utilization of services reinforces the technical bond between the two corporations as they scale their respective offerings.
Moving forward, the companies intend to expand their work with some of the largest established enterprises in the world, including the US corporations Walmart and PayPal.
