UAG Establishes Pedagogical Acceptable Expectations for AI
The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) has established 15 pedagogically acceptable expectations for the integration of AI in higher education. These guidelines aim to harmonize technological potential with the comprehensive development of students, focusing on AI as a supportive tool and not as a replacement for human intellect and the formative process.
The UAG acknowledges AI’s capacity to optimize research processes, data analysis, and learning personalization, reports Crónica. However, it emphasizes that its use must be critical, fostering the evaluation of the reliability and potential biases of algorithm-generated information. The university argues that the development of discernment and the verification of objectivity are central to its approach. Furthermore, it argues that the use of AI should contribute to self-knowledge and reflection, preventing data superficiality from compromising the deep acquisition of knowledge and the student's introspection.
UAG’s pedagogical expectations provide a roadmap for the strategic application of AI in education, reports Crónica. The framework underscores the importance of respecting student freedom and autonomy, ensuring AI tools empower learners without dictating their choices. The guidelines advocate for fostering rationality and critical evaluation of information, prompting students to assess AI-generated content for accuracy and bias. Furthermore, the framework highlights the development of research skills oriented toward the pursuit of truth, encouraging students to use AI to find reliable information while maintaining an investigative mindset.
Additional points within the UAG's fifteen expectations focus on holistic student development. These include promoting introspection and self-knowledge, preventing over-reliance on AI from diminishing personal reflection. The guidelines also stress the need for ethical and responsible technology use, ensuring students understand the broader implications of AI.
The UAG emphasizes respecting the uniqueness of each individual and preserving the irreplaceable interpersonal relationship between educators and students. Developing strong communication and presentation skills, even with AI assistance, remains a priority for the university.
