Mexico Launches “PYMES Ciberseguras” Initiative for 500,000 SMEs

Mexico's SMEs are becoming increasingly dependent on digital technologies to compete. At the same time, they are facing an unprecedented rise in cyber threats while lacking the resources to face them. To address that gap, the Mexican Information Technology Industry Association (AMITI), together with Mastercard, KIO IT Services, Capa 8, and public-sector institutions, has launched PYMES Ciberseguras, a national initiative designed to strengthen the cyber resilience of 500,000 Mexican businesses over the next year.

Retail Cyberattacks Double in Three Years: Kaspersky

Cybersecurity incidents targeting the retail sector have more than doubled over the past three years. According to the latest Kaspersky’s cybersecurity in retail report, attacks are no longer limited to data theft but now threaten payment systems, business operations, supply chains and customer trust.

Mexico's Financial Fraud Claims Rise 16.7% in 1H26

Mexico's National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Financial Services Users (Condusef) registered a 16.7% year-over-year increase in financial fraud attempts during 1H26, totaling 43,871 claims. This change contributed to an 11.3% expansion in total reports received by the commission, which reached 118,287 cases during the six-month period. Condusef emphasizes that systematic tracking of these incidents serves to identify operational weaknesses and adapt institutional defense mechanisms.

AI Is Outpacing Traditional Cybersecurity Patching

AI is reshaping cybersecurity in ways that extend beyond defense. As advanced AI models become capable of identifying software flaws at unprecedented speed and scale, enterprises are facing a growing operational challenge: applying security patches fast enough to prevent exploitation.

Shadow AI Becomes Major Risk for Enterprises

AI is becoming embedded in daily work across Latin America faster than organizations can establish the governance needed to manage it. According to EY's 2025 Work Reimagined Survey, employees are rapidly incorporating AI into their workflows, but many are doing so independently by introducing personal AI applications into corporate environments, exposing businesses to growing security and compliance risks.

3D Printing Cybersecurity Market to Grow 22.5% Annually

As additive manufacturing becomes a core production technology for industries such as aerospace, defense and healthcare, cybersecurity is emerging as a business requirement rather than an operational consideration. A new study from Meticulous Research projects the global cybersecurity market for 3D printing machines will expand from an estimated US$120 million in 2026 to US$910 million by 2036, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 22.5%.
