Mexico Hit by 31 Million Cyberattacks in 2024

In 2024, Mexico recorded 31 million cyberattack attempts, accounting for 55% of all attacks in Latin America, says Teramind. At the same time, the country struggles with low labor productivity, scoring only 20 points on a scale of 100, demanding comprehensive solutions to enhance business competitiveness, adds the company.

“In an environment where remote and hybrid work is expanding in Mexico, ensuring cybersecurity and operational efficiency is increasingly critical. Mexico has become a prime target for cybercriminals, with a 78% increase in cyberattack attempts in 2024. This trend not only disrupts business operations but also erodes consumer trust and increases operational costs. On the other hand, labor productivity in the country is among the lowest in the OECD, despite Mexican workers logging more hours than their counterparts in other nations. These factors pose a significant threat to the country’s economic competitiveness.

The cybersecurity market in Mexico, valued at US$2.80 billion and growing at an annual rate of 11.59%, reflects the urgency to adopt advanced technologies to mitigate these risks. Especially considering that national cyberattacks have grown in complexity and frequency. According to Kaspersky, 42.4 million attacks and over 81 million phishing attempts were blocked in 2024. 

However, the adoption of cybersecurity and productivity management solutions remains in its early stages, presenting opportunities to modernize the business environment.

The adoption of remote and hybrid work, preferred by 50.2% of technology professionals in the country, has introduced new vulnerabilities, such as data leaks and unauthorized access. While these work models benefit employees, they require technological solutions that balance security and efficiency.
