Amazon closed 3Q25 with total revenues of US$180.169 billion (MX$3 trillion), marking a 13% increase over the same period in 2024. Net profit for the quarter reached US$21.2 billion, a 37.9% rise compared to US$15.3 billion a year prior, largely driven by the performance of Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The company's operating result remained stable at US$17.4 billion but was impacted by two extraordinary charges: a US$2.5 billion legal settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and US$1.8 billion in estimated layoff costs. Without these impacts, the company asserts net profit would have reached US$21.7 billion.

The company also announced plans to hire "hundreds of thousands of temporary jobs" for the holiday season, including 250,000 in the United States and 150,000 in India, along with thousands across Australia, Canada, France, Spain, and Central Europe.

In the e-commerce segment, sales in North America grew 11% to US$106.3 billion. The international business advanced 14% to US$40.9 billion, supported by logistics expansion and the weakness of the dollar.

AWS and AI as Growth Engines

AWS was the primary driver of profitability, with sales of US$33 billion, a 20% year-over-year increase, and an operating profit of US$11.4 billion. The cloud division currently accounts for 18% of the company's total revenue.

Andy Jassy, President and CEO, Amazon, noted the momentum. "AWS is growing at a pace we have not seen since 2022, accelerating again to 20.2% year-over-year." Jassy emphasized continued strong demand for AI and basic infrastructure, and the company's focus on accelerating capacity, adding over 3.8GW in the last 12 months.

The impact of artificial intelligence extends to the retail division, with 250 million customers using Rufus, Amazon's AI-based shopping assistant, and customers who use Rufus are 60% more likely to complete a purchase.

The company launched new smart recommendation features like Help Me Decide, which suggests a single product based on browsing history and preferences, and extended content generation tools to over 1.3 million sellers. Help Me Decide is currently only available in the United States.

The quarter confirms Amazon's shift toward being a company increasingly focused on AI and digital infrastructure. The company is investing in chips, software, and new cloud services to sustain its e-commerce leadership and solidify its position as an influential global technology platform.

Amazon provided a strong forecast for 4Q25, which includes the high sales season of Black Friday and Christmas. The company expects revenues to be between US$206 billion and US$213 billion, representing growth of 10% to 13% compared to the prior year period. Projected operating profit is expected to range between US$21 billion and US$26 billion.
