Bimbo to Invest US$2 Billion in Mexico to Modernize Plants, Fleet
Grupo Bimbo will invest more than US$2 billion (MX$37 billion) in Mexico between 2025 and 2028 to modernize production infrastructure and expand its low-emission vehicle fleet.
According to Mexico’s Ministry of Economy (SE), the investment will support the modernization of over 30 production plants across 9 municipalities in seven states. It will also fund the expansion of Bimbo’s distribution fleet with electric and other sustainable vehicles.
Ximena Escobedo Juárez, head of the Ministry’s Productive Development Unit and Chief of Staff, said the plan is part of the federal government’s portfolio of strategic projects for shared prosperity, which now includes more than 1,666 initiatives totaling over US$270 billion.
“This investment will generate 2,000 direct jobs and more than 10,800 indirect jobs, making a significant contribution to regional development and economic well-being,” Escobedo stated.
The investment will be distributed across the following regions:
-
Baja California: Mexicali and Tijuana
-
Yucatan: Merida
-
Mexico City: Azcapotzalco
Nuevo Leon: Salinas Victoria -
Queretaro: El Marques
-
Puebla: Puebla
-
State of Mexico: Toluca and Lerma
José Manuel González, General Director, Bimbo Mexico, said the company aims to expand production capacity and technological capabilities to offer more accessible and nutritious products.
Bimbo currently sources 97% of its raw materials—such as corn, wheat, and potatoes—from domestic producers. González emphasized that the investment will further strengthen local supply chains and support national food security.
The company also committed to aligning the investment with key federal initiatives, including the anti-inflation program, water sustainability efforts, the “México Te Abraza” initiative, and the “Made in Mexico” campaign.
“With this investment, we reaffirm our support for the Mexico Plan promoted by the federal government to drive growth and strengthen the national economy,” González said.
