Grupo Bimbo, the world’s leading baking company, launched Bimbo Open Door, the largest food business accelerator in Latin America. The initiative aims to seek, develop and invest in innovative startups and scaleups within the bakery and snacks sector.

“With Bimbo Open Door, we want to be an engine for the entrepreneurial ecosystem where we create models of shared success that promote new talents and their great ideas, which we are sure will revolutionize the food industry,” said Raúl Obregón, Global Director of Information and Transformation, Grupo Bimbo.

To build the future of the food industry and open the door to new alliances, Grupo Bimbo is looking for projects that stand out for their innovative value propositions, sustainable practices and business models, among other characteristics. The invitation will remain open until Aug. 22, 2022, for Latin American startups and scaleups dedicated to the baking and production of snacks.

Those interested in participating must have a validated product, annual sales of over US$300,000 and the availability to participate in the program, said Grupo Bimbo. Aligned with the Mexican company’s values, initiatives must be aligned with at least one of these pillars: nutritional diversity, environmental care and community impact.

Once proposals are submitted, the selected startups and scaleups will be part of a 16-week hybrid program (face-to-face/digital), in which Grupo Bimbo will offer them mentoring by its directors and managers from diverse areas. In addition, finalists will have the opportunity to visit the company’s production and innovation centers.

Finalists must develop a proposal that participates in the demo day, which is the final stage of Bimbo Open Door’s platform and where executives from several companies will participate, seeking to generate collaborations in pilot programs, investments and strategic alliances.

Bimbo Open Door will reach over 20 countries within the Latin American region, including Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Argentina. During the project, Grupo Bimbo will work in partnership with Blue Box, the largest network of incubators, accelerators and corporate investment funds in Latin America.
