GAC, Mercado Libre and Salesforce Drive Auto Sales With AI
Summary: GAC México, Mercado Libre and Salesforce are integrating e-commerce and artificial intelligence to digitize the early stages of new-vehicle sales in Mexico, using customer data and AI to qualify leads and connect buyers with authorized dealers. The initiative reflects the automotive industry's shift toward digital marketplaces as complementary sales channels, with personalization, faster lead management and online-to-dealer integration becoming increasingly important to vehicle retail.
GAC México, Mercado Libre and Salesforce are combining e-commerce and artificial intelligence to reshape how consumers research and purchase new vehicles in Mexico, moving more of the automotive buying journey from dealerships to digital platforms.
The alliance brings GAC México's vehicle portfolio to its official Mercado Libre store while using Salesforce's Agentforce and Automotive Cloud technologies to analyze customer interest, qualify prospects and connect potential buyers with authorized dealers. The model is designed to shorten response times and provide more personalized assistance as consumers compare vehicles and evaluate purchasing options online.
The initiative reflects a broader shift in Mexico's automotive market, where digital platforms are increasingly becoming an entry point for vehicle purchases. Rather than replacing dealerships, the model moves the initial stages of the process online before connecting consumers with the automaker's authorized distribution network.
E-Commerce Moves Deeper Into Automotive Sales
The expansion of digital marketplaces into new-vehicle sales is changing the role of online research in automotive retail. Consumers can now begin their purchasing journey by reviewing vehicle specifications, versions, prices and availability without initially visiting a showroom.
GAC México's official store on Mercado Libre brings the automaker's portfolio into a platform already familiar to millions of Mexican consumers. Users can explore models, compare alternatives and register their interest through a digital process designed to simplify the first interaction with the brand.
The approach builds on Mercado Libre's existing automotive marketplace, which has historically connected consumers with used vehicles and sellers. The company is now extending that infrastructure to new vehicles, creating another channel through which automakers and dealers can engage prospective customers.
Mercado Libre began testing new-vehicle listings in Brazil before expanding the model to Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Mexico. In Mexico, pilot operations began in January 2026, allowing the platform to adapt its communication and digital support tools to local purchasing behavior.
Ai Connects Digital Leads With Dealers
Once a consumer requests information about a vehicle, Salesforce technology helps automate the next stages of the interaction. The system gathers relevant information, evaluates the prospect's level of interest and facilitates a connection with an authorized GAC México distributor.
That transition is important because the digital experience does not end with online vehicle discovery. Dealers remain responsible for providing information on financing alternatives, promotions and vehicle availability, preserving the commercial role of the established distribution network while allowing digital tools to handle earlier stages of the sales funnel.
For Mariano Nunes, Head of VIS Motors at Mercado Libre, the integration represents a step toward making automotive e-commerce resemble other digital purchasing experiences, where consumers can research products, compare options and establish contact with sellers through a single platform.
The company's strategy is supported by growing consumer activity in its automotive marketplace. Mercado Libre reported that traffic, visits and customer contacts in its used-vehicle segment increased 20% during 2025, reinforcing the potential for automotive retail to become a larger component of its e-commerce ecosystem.
Salesforce Expands Automotive Technology
The Mercado Libre integration also forms part of GAC México's broader digital transformation strategy. The automaker operates with a Salesforce technology ecosystem that includes Automotive Cloud, Marketing, Tableau and MuleSoft, linking customer management, marketing, data analysis and integration capabilities.
This infrastructure allows the automaker to use information generated during the digital customer journey to support sales and marketing activities. Artificial intelligence adds another layer by helping identify customer needs and automate interactions before a prospect reaches a dealership.
Sergio González, Commercial Director of GAC México, said the objective is to accompany consumers throughout their decision-making process by providing faster and more personalized attention when they discover and compare vehicles.
Claudia Martínez, Senior Director of Strategy and Industry Solutions at Salesforce, said artificial intelligence can help transform digital interest into business opportunities by combining customer context, automation and faster responses.
The technology therefore addresses a central challenge in automotive e-commerce: converting online research into qualified sales opportunities while maintaining the human interaction required to complete a vehicle purchase.
Automakers Accelerate Digital Distribution
GAC México's initiative comes as other automakers also expand their presence on digital marketplaces in Mexico. Stellantis, for example, began offering new vehicles through Mercado Libre in 2026, with Jeep, Ram, Dodge, Fiat and Peugeot among the brands available on the platform, reported MBN.
The move illustrates how manufacturers are increasingly treating marketplaces as complementary sales channels rather than replacements for traditional dealerships. Consumers can review prices, specifications and colors, contact sellers and advance through parts of the purchasing process digitally before completing the transaction with the automaker or an authorized dealer.
Market research from J.D. Power has also highlighted the importance of personalized service in vehicle purchasing, reinforcing the need for digital channels to provide more than static product information.
For Mexico's automotive industry, the combination of marketplaces, customer data and artificial intelligence could increasingly determine how consumers move from vehicle discovery to dealership interaction. As automakers expand digital sales strategies, the competitive focus is shifting toward faster lead management, personalization and seamless integration between online platforms and physical distribution networks.
