E-commerce giant Mercado Libre has inaugurated a new distribution center in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, and announced plans for another facility in Escobedo, with a total projected investment exceeding US$180 million by 2025. The expansion will grow the company’s workforce in the state from 1,700 to 3,300 employees.
“Mercado Libre has already invested US$300 million in Nuevo Leon and employs 1,300 people at this facility,” said Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda. “Their confidence in Mexico and the state is evident as they expand with a larger site in Escobedo.”
As part of the event, the Nuevo Leon government and Mercado Libre signed an agreement to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the “Made in Nuevo Leon” program. This initiative enables local businesses to register on Mercado Libre’s platform, expanding their reach and boosting sales opportunities.
Emmanuel Loo, acting head, Nuevo Leon’s Economic Secretariat, signed the agreement alongside Mercado Libre executives, including Omar Ramírez, senior director of logistics; Alehira Orozco, director of government relations and public policy; and Dymar Rodríguez, director, PBP.
Governor García Sepúlveda urged businesses to prioritize local products and services, highlighting the state’s economic impact. “Last year, Nuevo Leon contributed 27% of the national economy. There is no doubt we can reach 30% and continue growing,” he said.
