The 2022 edition of Hot Sale, held in May 23-31, registered a record spending of MX$23.4 billion (US$1.17 billion), a 25.2 percent increase compared with 2021, informed the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO).

Hot Sale 2022’s figures more than doubled 2019’s, when the campaign lasted only five days, and total sales amounted to MX$11 billion (US$550,000). However, in real terms, discounting the inflation placed at 7.65 percent for May, Hot Sale 2022 sales grew by 17.5 percent compared with the 2021 edition, reported El Financiero.

Hot Sale has become one of the favorite seasons to shop for Mexicans due to the promotions given to acquire merchandise through e-commerce, as reported by MBN. The initiative was introduced in 2014 by AMVO to foster e-commerce in Mexico through several discounts and promotions at affiliated businesses. “The young population's proximity to technology products allows them to take advantage of all the benefits of the digital world first hand,” wrote for MBN Karen Herrera, PR and Editorial Manager, Kueski.

The average online discount during Hot Sale 2022 was 14 percent. From the total Mexican internet users, 52 percent made a purchase during the campaign, representing over 12 million people, with an average ticket of MX$1,629 (US$81.45), reported AMVO. Retail websites increased their penetration, reaching 57.5 percent of the total Mexican internet users.

The most popular categories during Hot Sale 2022 continued to be fashion, electronics, beauty and personal care. AMVO highlighted the growing interest from customers in categories such as furniture and home, services, entertainment, lodging, finance and educational courses. Retail continued to dominate the e-commerce market with 64 percent of total sales. On the other hand, travel recovered from a difficult 2021 and took 7.8 percent of total sales. A total of 19 million products were sold and 14.6 million purchase orders were placed.

The pandemic boosted e-commerce adoption and growth in Mexico. In 2020, online shopping grew by 81 percent, according to AMVO. In 2021, e-commerce grew by 27 percent. “This year, more people are expected to make their first purchase online or make this their favorite purchase method,” wrote Herrera.
