This is the Week in Retail & E-Commerce!

Mexico Digital Consumer Confidence Jumps to 66% in 3Q26: AMVO

Mexico’s Digital Consumer Confidence Index rose to 66% in the third quarter of 2026, reflecting stronger consumer adoption of online shopping and increased transaction frequency across retail categories. The growth is being driven by seasonal campaigns, omnichannel purchasing habits and rising demand in sectors such as fashion, electronics, food and beverages, and health products. Retailers, marketplaces and logistics operators are expected to strengthen inventory management, digital visibility and last-mile capabilities as e-commerce becomes a larger component of Mexico’s retail ecosystem.

Walmart Expands Private Labels as Consumer Habits Shift

Walmart de México y Centroamérica is expanding its private-label strategy, aiming to increase the contribution of exclusive brands from 17% to 25% of total sales within five years as consumers become more focused on value and price. The retailer is combining private-brand growth with investments in e-commerce, supply chain automation and digital technologies to strengthen competitiveness amid slower consumer demand. Walmex’s strategy reflects broader changes in Mexico’s retail sector, where omnichannel operations, affordability, and operational efficiency are becoming key growth drivers.

Palacio de Hierro Expands Digital Retail Amid Slowdown

Grupo Palacio de Hierro increased revenue by 5% year over year in 2Q2026, supported by store modernization, omnichannel investments and an 18.7% expansion in digital sales despite weaker consumer spending in Mexico’s retail sector. The company is strengthening its integrated retail model through physical store renovations, digital platforms, personalization tools, and customer-focused services. Its strategy reflects broader industry efforts to adapt to changing consumption patterns, where technology, data-driven operations, and channel integration are becoming essential for competitiveness.

Experiential Retail Is the New Retail

Alexandre Bartra, General Manager North America, ETAM, explains how Mexico’s rapidly expanding e-commerce market is reshaping the role of physical retail, shifting stores from transaction points into experience-driven brand spaces. He highlights how retailers are investing in experiential formats, omnichannel strategies, and innovative services to attract customers, increase engagement, and complement digital channels. As online sales continue gaining share, competitive advantage increasingly depends on creating differentiated in-store experiences that generate traffic, loyalty, and long-term customer relationships.
