Mexico’s Digital Consumer Confidence Index rose 18 percentage points to 66% in 3Q26, driven by summer sales, back-to-school shopping, and supermarket discount campaigns ahead of peak Q4 commercial events. Supported by 46% of digital consumers planning weekly online purchases and 27% deploying artificial intelligence tools for deal comparisons, the trend highlights expanding omnichannel adoption across retail, consumer goods, and digital marketplaces. Managing inventory availability and fulfillment infrastructure during 3Q26 remains critical for logistics operators and commercial brands seeking to capture high-volume holiday demand.

Mexico’s Digital Consumer Confidence Index (ICCD) increased from 48% to 66% between the second and third quarters of 2026, according to the Consumer Pulse July-September 2026 report published by the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO). The 18-percentage-point rebound coincides with major seasonal commercial triggers, including summer vacations, supermarket discount campaigns, and back-to-school shopping, positioning the third quarter as an operational catalyst ahead of year-end peak retail events.

The expansion in digital confidence reflects an increased willingness among Mexican consumers to execute online transactions, consolidating digital channels into routine shopping habits. According to Pierre-Claude Blaise, CEO of AMVO, Mexico today resembles where China was a decade ago. “With China now approaching 50% penetration, the comparison highlights the scale of untapped potential,” says Blaise. AMVO projections indicate online transactions are expected to represent 17.7% of total retail sales in Mexico by 2026, up from 6.9% of GDP contribution recorded in 2024.

Sector by Sector Spread

Rising consumer confidence is translating directly into higher purchase frequency across domestic commerce sectors. According to AMVO’s survey, 46% of digital consumers intend to make at least one online purchase per week during the third quarter of 2026. This consistent transaction volume signals expanded order activity for retailers, digital marketplaces, and logistics operators in the months leading up to fourth-quarter flagship commercial campaigns, such as El Buen Fin and the December holiday season.

Seasonal promotional events serve as the principal drivers of consumer expenditure during the quarter. Supermarket promotional offers registered the highest purchase intention at 75%, followed by back-to-school items at 57% and summer vacation spending at 54%. However, shopping behavior varies depending on the consumption occasion. While vacation-related transactions show a stronger inclination toward exclusive digital channels at 34%, supermarket promotions and back-to-school shopping maintain a dominant omnichannel structure, with more than 50% of consumers combining physical store visits with online platform purchases.

Category-level data from the AMVO report shows that consumer purchase intention over the next three months is concentrated in fashion, beauty and personal care, food and beverages, technology and electronics, as well as health and pharmacy products. Consumers plan to execute these purchases primarily through pure-play digital storefronts, followed by supermarket chains and self-service retail platforms.

Evolving Consumer Behavior Operational Agility

The report also identifies evolving consumer behaviors regarding technology adoption and product selection. Approximately 27% of surveyed consumers state they will utilize artificial intelligence tools to compare products and identify promotions. This trend increases technical requirements for retailers and marketplaces to optimize digital product catalog data and ensure algorithmic visibility across digital shopping assistants. Concurrently, 34% of consumers express interest in purchasing from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) or selecting "Hecho en México" products, creating commercial opportunities for specialized sellers and national brands within digital marketplaces.

The surge in digital order volume creates operational and fulfillment requirements across the commercial supply chain. Retailers, platform operators, and logistics providers face imperative demands to reinforce inventory management, product availability, delivery speed, and last-mile fulfillment capacity throughout the third quarter. Managing inventory and distribution as unified, execution-driven supply chain platforms has become essential for omnichannel businesses, as fulfillment transitions from an administrative function to a core competitive engine. AMVO concluded that maintaining frictionless purchasing experiences during the third quarter will prove decisive for commercial entities preparing for peak fourth-quarter demand, when a substantial portion of annual retail sales is historically generated.
