Summary: Mexico’s retail and e-commerce sector is accelerating its transformation toward omnichannel business models, with companies including Walmart de México y Centroamérica, Farmacias Guadalajara, Miniso and Mercado Libre investing in physical expansion, digital platforms, logistics, artificial intelligence and consumer services. The convergence of value retail, e-commerce, rapid delivery, fintech and AI is creating new opportunities for retailers and investors as companies adapt to softer consumer demand and changing customer expectations across Mexico.
Bodega Aurrera Expands Gas Station Network in Mexico
Walmart de México y Centroamérica is expanding its gas station network at Bodega Aurrera locations in Querétaro and Durango, reinforcing a broader strategy to transform its extensive physical footprint into a consumer services ecosystem. By combining fuel, retail, convenience, e-commerce fulfillment and rapid delivery capabilities, Walmex is seeking to increase customer traffic and strengthen omnichannel growth despite softer consumer demand and declining store transactions.
Farmacias Guadalajara Expands as Digital Pharmacies Gain Ground
Corporativo Fragua is expanding Farmacias Guadalajara’s national footprint through new SuperFarmacias and logistics infrastructure, while managing rising labor costs and pressure on operating margins. At the same time, digital pharmacy platforms such as Prixz are gaining ground through nationwide delivery, broader medication catalogs and online access, positioning e-commerce as an increasingly important channel for Mexico’s pharmaceutical retail and healthcare markets.
Miniso Leads NRF’s Hot 25 Retailers for 2026
Miniso’s top ranking in NRF’s Hot 25 Retailers 2026 shows that US retail growth is increasingly driven by value-oriented formats, product discovery, experiential stores and omnichannel strategies rather than retailer size alone. The strong presence of Asian retail concepts, combined with expanding private-label strategies and growing interest from Asian brands in Mexico, highlights opportunities for retailers that combine affordability, differentiated products and integrated customer experiences.
Walmex Accelerates Store and Digital Expansion in Mexico
Walmex has expanded digital sales 16% and continued opening stores despite weaker consumer traffic in Mexico. The investments highlight opportunities in retail technology, logistics, automation, marketplace infrastructure and last-mile delivery. Walmart is accelerating its e-commerce and omnichannel strategy as digital sales, marketplace activity and faster deliveries become key growth drivers across its US and international operations. The company increased US e-commerce 24% in fiscal 2Q2027.
Mercado Libre Experience 2026 to Spotlight AI and Ecommerce
Mercado Libre Experience 2026 will bring together about 12,000 participants in Mexico City to examine how artificial intelligence, e-commerce, fintech, social commerce and digitalization are reshaping Mexico’s digital economy. The event will combine technology insights with personalized seller training and investor perspectives, while Mercado Libre’s CLIC program expands year-round digital-commerce support for Mexican MSMEs, cooperatives and local producers.
