Grupo Bimbo reported a 92% progress toward achieving 100% renewable energy use in its operations, as part of its strategy to reach net-zero carbon emissions. By the end of last year, the company had converted its operations to 100% renewable electric energy in 27 countries.

"In 2023, Russia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, China, and South Korea converted their operations to 100% renewable electric energy through the acquisition of renewable energy certificates (iRECs) from clean energy sources," Rafael Pamias, Director General, Bimbo stated. Additionally, the plant in Guatemala joined the countries using 100% renewable electric energy through a hydropower purchase agreement, and in October, the Hilda Wind wind farm in Canada began operations, making Bimbo in Canada 50% renewable.

This week, the Mexican bakery presented its 2023 Annual Report "Behind Our Actions," detailing its business advancements and progress towards its 2030 and 2050 Sustainability Strategy goals, as reported by MBN. In terms of energy, Grupo Bimbo reached 92% of its electric energy from renewable sources like solar and wind globally in 2023, aiming for 100% by 2025. Regarding electromobility, the company has 2,693 electric delivery vehicles, totaling 6,198 alternative fuel units, avoiding over 22,081t of CO2 emissions annually.

Regarding emissions, the goal for Grupo Bimbo is a 50% reduction by 2050 in Scope 1 and 28% in Scope 3 emissions. By the end of 2023, Bimbo achieved a 9% reduction in Scope 1 emissions through sustainable mobility and 3.7% in Scope 3. Additionally, 63% of its refrigeration equipment operates with natural refrigerants. "Aligned with Science Based Targets as part of the Race to Zero campaign, we continue advancing our commitments toward 2050, driving our initiatives across all three scopes," the global company stated.
