Mexico’s CFE reported significant progress in restoring power across eastern Mexico, reaching 98.72% of affected users after severe storms disrupted service last week. The update followed instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum, with CFE Director General Emilia Calleja confirming that electricity has been restored to 260,080 users in Veracruz, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosi, Puebla, and Queretaro.

According to the utility, power has been fully restored in Veracruz, San Luis Potosí, and Querétaro, while efforts continue in Puebla, now at 98.56%, and Hidalgo, where progress stands at 95.41%. In Hidalgo, workers built 16 structures in just five days to cross the rising Vizcaíno River, a task that would normally take two weeks.

CFE has deployed 968 electricians, 98 cranes, 279 pickup trucks, 105 emergency generators, five drones, and five helicopters. In remote areas of Hidalgo, crews are using four ATVs and eight backhoes to reach damaged lines.

CFE Telecom has also advanced recovery efforts, restoring 62% of cell towers and 42% of free internet access points in affected areas. The company has installed internet access in two ISSSTE clinics in Álamo, Veracruz, and distributed 2,569 free CFE SIM cards offering voice and data services to residents.

The CFE continues to coordinate with federal and local authorities through the National Civil Protection System to ensure a full and safe recovery.
