Mexico's National Energy Commission (CNE) is poised to unveil a comprehensive set of regulations and technical provisions by Sept. 15, 2025, aimed at facilitating the submission of new renewable energy generation projects. This regulatory framework is integral to advancing President Claudia Sheinbaum's Plan México, a strategic initiative designed to position Mexico among the world's Top 10 economies by 2030. The plan emphasizes the development of clean energy infrastructure, with a particular focus on distributed photovoltaic systems, such as solar rooftops, to empower marginalized communities.

Gilberto Sánchez, Vice President, National Solar Energy Association (ANES), highlighted the significance of these forthcoming regulations. He told Milenio that ANES is in continuous dialogue with CNE, the newly established regulatory body overseeing the energy sector. Sánchez emphasized that CNE's role encompasses supervising and issuing guidelines for electricity, hydrocarbons, biofuels, and energy transition projects, thereby expediting the processing of existing requests.

Plan México aims to democratize access to renewable energy by promoting the installation of solar rooftops in underserved regions. Sánchez underscored that solar energy is pivotal in achieving the plan's objectives of equity and sustainable development.

This regulatory advancement aligns with Mexico's broader efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure and attract investment in clean energy technologies. The anticipated regulations are expected to streamline the permitting process, enhance grid stability, and foster the development of intelligent energy solutions, thereby supporting the country's transition toward a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
