Q: What is the added value that Prysmian brings to the Mexican energy market?

A: Global expertise and innovation. Prysmian is a company with nearly 150 years of history and worldwide leadership in the energy and telecommunications sectors. We operate 108 plants in more than 50 countries, which means we have faced challenges of varying complexity that allow us to offer the Mexican market solutions already proven worldwide.

In Mexico, we operate two plants: one in Tlaxcala that manufactures high-medium- and low-voltage energy cables; and another that produces copper telecom cables, which are gradually being replaced by fiber optics, one of our most advanced product lines globally. We currently employ around 340 people in Tlaxcala, with administrative and commercial offices in Mexico City.

Besides our portfolio, and global innovation leadership, with over 5.600 patents worldwide, 27 research centers, and 1.100 R&D professionals, one of our greatest added value in Mexico lies in our high-voltage service team, capable of installing all related accessories in turnkey projects—such as terminals and joints— and perform all types testing and cable repairs. We are the only cable manufacturer in Mexico that offers this complete service, and we export this expertise to other Latin American countries.

Q: Who are your main clients, and how does your company support them across different sectors?

A: We serve a wide range of customers from major public utilities such as CFE to private power-generation leaders, global EPCs, and industrial, infrastructure, and construction companies through an extensive nationwide distribution network. This network allows us to reach not only large-scale projects but also key industries such as automotive manufacturing, mining, datacenters, transportation, and oil and gas, where reliability and safety are essential.

Furthermore, we partner closely with global engineering firms, construction companies, and OEMs, offering customized innovative product solutions, just-in-time logistics, and emergency response capabilities —critical when facing challenges such as power outages, natural disasters, or maintenance of strategic infrastructure.

Our target is always to build long-term relationships. We don’t just supply cables; we co-develop solutions that enable energy transition, digital transformation, and industrial resilience. Clients value that we combine global innovation and local presence to deliver technologies that make their operations safer, smarter, and more sustainable.

Q: What are the current market trends in energy and telecommunications, and how is the company positioning itself in this scenario?

A: These sectors are living a rapid transformation driven by three main forces: decarbonization, electrification, and digitalization. Prysmian is strategically positioned at the intersection of these trends.

In the energy market, the transition toward renewables sources requires bigger, stronger, smarter, and more resilient transmission and distribution networks. Prysmian is a global leader in this segment with cables and systems up to 525 kV.

Simultaneously, we see a growing shift toward sustainable, circular and low carbon products. In this topic, the company has created a sustainable product roadmap—framed within our ePath strategy—ensures that more than half of our global revenues will come from products with measurable sustainability value in the coming years.

In telecommunications, demand accelerates due to 5G expansion, AI-driven data processing, IoT growth, and the rise of hyperscale data centers. The market is moving toward ultra-high-density fiber cables such as Sirocco HD. The convergence of power and data technologies is another defining trend. Hybrid cables and smart monitoring systems are setting new standards for reliability and predictive maintenance in critical infrastructure.

Q: How does the company develop talent in Mexico?

A: At Prysmian, people are at the center of our innovation strategy, we foster an environment where knowledge and experience circulate globally. Our teams in Mexico are part of an interconnected network of more than 30,000 employees. We have very interesting development programs, such as our Prysmian Academy in partnership with Italian academic institutions, Graduate program, STEM IT, SUM IT, and SELL IT programs aim to hire and develop professionals in STEM careers, Controlling, and commercial areas, coaching and mentoring programs, as well as a very solid evaluation process called P+.  Through these programs and evaluations, employees have opportunities for internal growth and international mobility, and academic development with globally recognized institutions. Our approach combines traditional education, technical specialization, and a strong emphasis on global collaboration.

We also actively promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. We track progress annually to ensure gender balance and prioritize the recruitment of women in STEM. Our commitment to include women in leadership roles increases constantly, supported by mentorship programs and initiatives designed to strengthen their participation in technical and management positions.

In essence, talent development at Prysmian México is not just about professional growth—it’s about empowering people to innovate, lead, and make a tangible impact on the country’s growth.

Q: What are the main challenges for Mexico’s energy and telecom infrastructure, and what opportunities exist?

A: One of the main challenges facing 2026 is the renegotiation of the USMCA treaty. On the energy side, the main challenge in Mexico remains the limited capacity and modernization of the transmission and distribution network. For the coming years, Mexico will require an enormous amount of energy to sustain its growth and keep pace with macro trends such as data centers for AI, 5G, and IoT development. This structural limitation has slowed down the integration of more renewable generation and new technologies. Furthermore, an underutilized renewable potential as despite having abundant solar and wind resources, renewable energy growth is constrained by regulatory frameworks which are under development currently. From a safety perspective, Mexico still faces a regulatory gap regarding low-smoke, halogen-free materials (LSZH).

We view the national energy transition plan, aiming to reach 45% renewable generation by 2030, and the interest of the government to open doors to public-private partnerships for grid modernization, energy infrastructure projects, and industrial efficiency solutions as a huge opportunity to accelerate the trend.

On the telecommunications side, the main challenge is expanding high-speed connectivity nationwide. The opportunity lies in deploying connectivity in underserved rural areas, driving digital transformation and economic inclusion while improving the fiber-optic infrastructure with higher density and lower environmental impact, and Prysmian is ready to contribute to this potential by transferring our global know-how, strengthening grid resilience, and expanding the fiber networks that will sustain the country’s digital transformation.

Q: How is innovation in services and cable technology shaping the company’s future direction?

A: One of our objectives is to transform the company from being a cable manufacturer to a solutions provider. In this sense, we have made progress in incorporating products and services to offer enhanced products. I can name a few, such as for example, we are integrating digital intelligence, measurement, and data analytics into our products and services. Our EOSS (Electronic-Optical Sensing Systems) is an example, enabling continuous monitoring of network performance.

E3X technology, which uses robotic systems to apply a conductive coating to installed overhead transmission lines, enhancing heat-dissipation and transforming the power grid through reduced power loss, increased power carrying capacity and lower costs, allowing them to carry more current without rebuilding infrastructure.

In service innovation, Alesea is our GPS-enabled reel and cable management platform. It provides real-time information, helping customers reduce waste and contribute to circular economy practices.

In Mexico, we are currently developing high-voltage cables that integrate data transmission capabilities. This transformation from cables to solutions defines Prysmian’s future direction and our role as a global enabler of energy and data transitions.

Q: What excites you about operating in Mexico, and why is the market important?

A: Mexico is the second largest economy in Latam, and one of the most industrially diverse and dynamic markets in the region. Its strong manufacturing base and strategic geographical position make it a natural hub for energy, telecommunications, and technology integration.

Mexico is experiencing a moment of transformation, advancing major public and private investments. Projects such as the expansion of railway networks illustrate the scale of development. Beyond its industrial strength, Mexico is a key player in the regional energy transition.

Mexico's talent pool is one of its greatest assets. For us, this is an opportunity to develop local capabilities and transfer global know-how, strengthening Mexico’s position as a regional innovation center. What excites me most is that Mexico embodies the convergence of energy and digital revolutions.

Q: What is the company’s long-term strategy and investment vision for Mexico?

A: We have been committed to Mexico for many years. Our goal is to continue our growth trend, facilitating the energy transition, electrification, and digitalization. We, as the global cable player leading the energy transition and digital transformation are convinced that we can bring the most innovative products that no other local competitor can offer to support Mexico’s growth.

Our investment strategy focuses on modernizing and expanding our plants capacity and capabilities, to increase efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint while contributing to Mexico’s energy transition and digitalization.

We see enormous potential to contribute with our portfolio, know-how, experience, and innovation strength, so we are very optimistic about the short, medium, and long-term future and the opportunities to participate meaningfully.
