Enlight, a Mexican company specializing in clean energy solutions, presented its "Outlook for Solar Energy in Mexico" and the benefits of incorporating PV solar systems in industrial production chains. During the event, the company emphasized the economic viability of solar energy as a sustainable energy alternative. It highlighted Solar’s attractiveness for businesses generate a positive impact on the environment and their finances.

For the industrial sector, relying on fossil fuels to meet the energy demand is becoming increasingly problematic. Factors such as a global energy crisis and the ongoing renewable energy revolution have transformed energy consumption trends. PV solar systems are an ecologically and economically viable solution for large industries, allowing them to generate and consume their own electricity.

A key benefit of adopting solar technology is savings in electricity expenses. While the cost of industrial electricity rates in Mexico has increased 98 percent in the past four years, solar energy has decreased its prices by up to 90 percent in a decade. This allowed Mexico to exceed 2GW of installed capacity in Distributed Generation (DG) in 2021, with more than 270,000 interconnection contracts nationwide. According to PRODESEN 2022-2036, the current installed capacity is expected to triple by the end of 2026 to 6.7GW. Solar energy can foster energy savings of up to 80 percent for industries. It also has a return on investment after four years, with the system often lasting for over three decades.

The ecological benefits also stand out: Mexico's goal for 2050 is for 50 percent of its energy production to come from renewable sources. Therefore, the installation of solar panels represents a positive contribution to decarbonization goals.

The implementation of solar energy in the industrial sector improves the sustainability of companies, giving them a competitive advantage and a differentiating factor in today's market. The private sector is increasingly concerned about taking action to decarbonize its operations. According to UN data, more than 1,200 companies have joined the Race to Zero campaign, drawing up plans to reduce polluting emissions by around 45 percent by 2030, to reach net zero by 2050.

Through all the solar rooftops it has installed, Enlight has mitigated more than 122,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to planting more than 9 million trees. The implementation of solar systems on industrial rooftops helps to boost sustainability, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, and slow global warming.

One of the companies driving the energy transition is Frialsa, a Mexican leader in cold chain logistics operations. During the event, Frialsa explained that its processes require a high electricity consumption, so it turned to Enlight for a solution to save energy and decarbonize its processes. Now, 22 Frialsa distribution centers already generate clean energy with solar panels, enabling them to mitigate 9,218 tons of CO2 annually.

"The decarbonization of production chains with PV solar and energy storage systems is key to the transition to a reliable, safe, efficient and more environmentally friendly energy system," said Julian Willenbrock, CEO, Enlight.
