Mexican company Enlight, dedicated to distributed generation (DG) solar photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation and energy storage, has set its sights on the Chilean market, where it hopes to achieve accelerated growth in the short term.

Julian Willenbrock, Co-founder and CEO, Enlight, stressed that the company has what it needs in terms of equipment, experience and opportunity to grow in Mexico and in Chile, where they see an important business niche. "The projects we are currently developing are our industrial solar roofs accompanied by energy storage," he said.

Enlight has 11 years of experience in the design, installation and maintenance of solar panels and storage systems, with operations in Chile, Colombia, Panama, Peru and Costa Rica outside of its original market, Mexico. The company oversaw the installation of some of the largest solar roofs in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Chile.

According to Willenbrock, the current trend in the field of renewable energy points toward the integration of energy storage systems. "Mexico’s electricity demand is expected to grow 12.7 percent by 2024. Investing in solar energy plus storage drives diversification of the energy industry,” said Manuel Ahumada, Associate and Commercial Director, Enlight, in a Forbes interview.

Experts point out that the implementation of energy storage technology will revolutionize the use of renewable energy, providing efficient and reliable energy and ensuring electrical stability in power sources known for their problematic intermittency.

Willenbrock said that Mexico needs clear regulation for this technology to be able to have long-term certainty and attract investments. On the other hand, with the publication of the new Law on Storage and Electromobility on Nov. 21, 2022, Chile has announced it is ready for the development of storage projects.

"Nowadays, we are the only service partner of Sungrow in Latin America. In 2023, we expect historic growth for our organization. We want Enlight to take on a leading role in the energy storage sector in Chile," said Willenbrock.

The Chinese company Sungrow broadcasts that it is the world’s most bankable inverter brand with a whopping 269GW installed worldwide. In November 2022, Enlight became Sungrow’s first service partner in Latin America. The commercial agreement between these two companies guarantees the optimal functioning of the energy storage systems with Sungrow technology in Latin America through the services of Enlight.

Regarding Mexico’s energy policy, Willenbrock said that even though the political landscape in Mexico is not the most favorable for renewable energy, the country has the fundamental elements to make it work, including abundant solar and wind resources. "We must continue to promote and work hand in hand with both private players and the government to solve problems and align priorities that favor both parties,” he highlighted.
