FIDE’s Eco-Credit Program Cuts 2025 Interest Rates

The Massive Business Eco-Credit program, managed by the Trust for Saving Electric Energy (FIDE) with support from SENER, reported that it has helped avoid the emission of 130,750t of CO2 by promoting energy efficiency among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME). The initiative is designed to reduce energy consumption and support businesses in adopting sustainable practices.  

In recognition of the program’s role in improving MSME competitiveness and increasing renewable energy generation, FIDE announced a reduction in interest rates for 1Q25. Interest rates will now be set at 13.30% for loans exceeding MX$250,000 (US$12,181) and 14.05% for smaller loans, offering lower financing costs than in 2024.  

SENER also provides a 10% non-refundable energy incentive for businesses that invest in energy efficiency projects or distributed generation systems with photovoltaic technology. Since 2012, the program has benefited 37,262 MSMEs — including cafes, grocery stores, bakeries, hotels, and restaurants — by financing 53,738 energy-efficient units and achieving energy savings of 266.03GWh per year.  

The program offers financing of up to MX$2 million for multiple energy efficiency projects, with a maximum of MX$900,000 per photovoltaic system. Businesses can repay loans through their CFE bill over a period of up to five years, with fixed interest rates and no penalties for early repayment.  

The program also supports projects that enable businesses to switch to more efficient energy rates, improve power quality, and incorporate backup batteries for photovoltaic systems. It also extends warranty coverage on commercial refrigeration systems to five years. Eligible technologies include commercial refrigerators, refrigeration chambers, air conditioning units, LED lighting, solar water heaters, electrical substations, and capacitor banks.  

The initiative is backed by the Ministry of Economy (SE), Nacional Financiera (NAFIN), and CFE as part of Mexico’s broader strategy to enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
