In the framework of its 100th anniversary, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) held the commemorative congress "Technological Trends in Clean Energy and Electricity Storage.” During the event led by Pablo Realpozo del Castillo, President, the IEEE Mexico Council, experts in the electricity, clean energy and storage sectors analyzed the challenges, solutions and technological advances in the energy industry.

During his opening speech, Manuel Bartlett, Director General, CFE, said "The engineer’s job is not only to build, to set up large complexes, to maintain them and to bring them to optimum development, but also to seek out new technologies to modernize and find new ways in the production  of electricity.”

César Fuentes Estrada, Corporate Director of Engineering and Infrastructure Projects, IEEE, said that innovation contributes to improving Mexican citizens' quality of life. "Throughout the century, we have contributed to the growth and modernization of the industrial electrical infrastructure of our country, highlighting the development of the National Electricity System (SEN)," he said.

Carlos Ruschke Pedro, Vice President of the National Chamber of Electrical Manufacturing (CANAME), stressed that the chamber endorses CFE’s power plant development program, which has an emphasis on enhancing hydroelectric plants. "We all want a robust and strong CFE," he said.

José Mendoza, Deputy Director of Unregulated Business, CFE, pointed out that CFE is currently developing high-efficiency thermoelectric projects, linking conventional energy with clean energy, strengthening the geothermal sector and building the largest photovoltaic solar power plant in Latin America.

José Hornelas, Coordinator of Advisors of the Corporate Operations Directorate, CFE, highlighted that, although the Russia-Ukraine conflict has influenced energy costs in Europe, Mexico has maintained stable energy prices so far. "CFE as a company contributes largely to maintaining the reliability of the SEN to reach a continuous quality electricity supply for the end user,” he said.

IIIE is the world’s largest professional technical organization, according to its website. Its mission is to promote technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. It was founded in New York on May 13, 1884, by a group of inventors in the then-budding technologies of electricity and telephony, including Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and Franklin Leonard Pope. In Mexico, the IEEE was constituted on June 29, 1922, and represents the third-oldest IEEE section in the world.
