Officials from SENER and CENACE met with the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energy (INEEL) to review progress on the renewal of the country’s Energy Information System (SIE), assess the institute’s information technology needs, and define next steps for expanding the project in line with Mexico’s updated energy planning framework.

During the meeting, INEEL presented results from the first stage of the SIE upgrade, which included a full diagnostic based on SENER’s requirements, the system’s design and development, and training for personnel. SIE compiles data from across Mexico’s energy sector, serving as a public and specialist resource to promote understanding of national energy statistics. The system runs on a hyperconverged computing architecture, integrating hardware, software, storage, and networking into a unified high-availability platform.

Stage two will prioritize expanding the SIE’s reach with new functionalities and tools designed to support national energy planning, the energy transition, and the implementation of planning instruments in line with the updated guidelines of Mexico’s Energy Planning and Transition Law. SENER staff expressed their commitment to collaborate with INEEL in achieving these goals. To ensure the system becomes a key support for the energy transition, the meeting also outlined the main challenges and opportunities for integrating new capabilities into the SIE within the context of Mexico’s energy model.

SENER and CENACE representatives toured INEEL’s computing facilities and reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate on the project’s next phase, positioning the SIE as a strategic tool for modernizing Mexico’s energy sector.
