President Claudia Sheinbaum led a Mexican delegation to Guatemala on Friday, meeting with President Bernardo Arévalo to outline a joint agenda that places energy integration at its center. The plan includes advancing cross-border infrastructure while emphasizing environmental protection and sustainable growth.

 

Sheinbaum Pushes Plan to Cut Mexico’s Natural Gas Dependence

President Sheinbaum signaled a new push to reduce Mexico’s reliance on imported natural gas, calling the country’s dependence on US supplies a pressing issue for energy sovereignty. “We have a very high dependence on natural gas, so it is important to open debate and discussion about sovereignty in this area,” states Sheinbaum. “One of the actions being developed with PEMEX is to strengthen national production.”

Transition Industries has signed a Heads of Agreement with Bonatti for critical infrastructure on the Pacifico Mexinol project in Sinaloa, Mexico. The agreement includes a lump sum binding price and makes Bonatti responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and startup of port facility upgrades and pipelines.

 

CANACINTRA Backs US$500 Million Industrial Solar, Storage Program

The National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (CANACINTRA) is backing a US$500 million program to equip 20 high-energy-use companies in Mexico with solar generation and battery storage systems designed to meet up to 100% of their electricity demand without initial capital investment.

 

US Fast-Tracks Small Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has launched President Trump’s Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program, selecting 11 advanced reactor projects for fast-tracked deployment. EPM Eólica 24 is moving forward with the development of a new wind power project in Mier, Tamaulipas, near the US border, after receiving positive feedback from the National Center for Energy Control (CENACE). The initiative, named Central Eólica 24 Wind, represents an investment of more than MX$2.63 billion and aims to strengthen clean electricity generation in the state.
