Mexico Invites Energy Investment as Data Centers Surge

Minister of Energy Luz Elena González, has invited investors and private sector groups to collaborate with the Mexican government to finalize electricity generation investments in priority areas of the country. These actions are intended to contribute to Plan México, the National Development Plan, and the country’s energy transition goals.

SENER Invites Private Investment for Power Generation

The projects outlined in the call are projected to add more than 6,000MW of capacity, representing an investment of approximately US$7.14 billion. Of this capacity, 3,790MW will correspond to photovoltaic solar energy generation and 2,100MW to wind energy.

Mexico Denies Claims of New Energy Plant Expropriation Powers

The Mexican government has denied claims published by Reforma suggesting that the state could expropriate private energy plants through the legal mechanism known as “temporary occupation.” In an official statement, the administration emphasized that the figure has existed since the 2014 Hydrocarbons Law and does not constitute expropriation or the loss of private property.

 

CONUEE, Jalisco Energy Agency Partner to Boost Efficiency

Earlier this month, during the Expo Congreso Electricón 2025 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, the National Commission for the Efficient Use of Energy (CONUEE) and the Jalisco State Energy Agency (AEEJ) signed a letter of intent to promote energy efficiency across the state and strengthen the technical capacities of government personnel.

 

CFE Restores 98.72% of Power in Eastern Mexico After Storms

CFE reported significant progress in restoring power across Eastern Mexico, reaching 98.72% of affected users after severe storms disrupted service last week. The update followed instructions from President Claudia Sheinbaum, with CFE Director General Emilia Calleja confirming that electricity has been restored to 260,080 users in Veracruz, Hidalgo, San Luis Potosi, Puebla, and Queretaro.

 

Renewables Surpass Coal in Global Electricity for First Time

Renewable energy has overtaken coal as the world’s largest source of electricity generation for the first time, according to data from global energy think tank Ember. In 1H25, wind and solar power produced 5,072TWh globally, surpassing coal’s 4,896TWh and marking a milestone in the transition to a lower-carbon energy economy.

 

Grupo Cox Announces US$6.4 Billion Investment, Focus on Mexico

Spain-based energy company Grupo Cox announced a US$6.4 billion investment plan, with nearly half of the total amount to be allocated to water and renewable energy projects through 2028. The company also noted the plan will involve the sale of certain assets considered non-strategic.
