Mexico Needs Energy Strategy to Ensure Competitiveness: COPARMEX

The “Energía con Futuro: Diálogo, Propuesta y Acción COPARMEX 2025” forum, hosted by Confederation of Employers of Mexico (COPARMEX), brought together national experts, government authorities, and private sector leaders to chart a comprehensive energy agenda for Mexico. The event aimed to foster strategic dialogue on the country’s energy challenges and opportunities, focusing on the transition to clean energy, technological advancements, and policies to ensure energy security.

The event highlighted the urgency of balancing Mexico’s traditional energy resources with the demands of a sustainable future. “We are at a decisive moment. The world faces increasingly complex energy challenges: rising demand, the urgency to reduce emissions, international market pressures, and the transition to more sustainable models. In this scenario, oil, petroleum products, and natural gas remain pillars of the energy matrix, while clean energy demands greater investment, innovation, and clear rules,” said Juan José Sierra, National President, COPARMEX.

Gerardo Trejo, National Vice President for Sustainability, COPARMEX, emphasized the private sector’s critical role. “Private investment, technological innovation, and management capacity complement public sector efforts, creating a more competitive and sustainable ecosystem. In natural gas and petroleum, private participation has expanded infrastructure, diversified supply sources, and improved distribution efficiency, all aimed at ensuring energy security and competitive prices for society,” he said.

Speakers highlighted natural gas as a key transition fuel and emphasized modernizing infrastructure for transport and storage. TC Energía’s Leonardo Robles stressed the importance of expanding pipeline networks to critical regions, while panelists noted the role of public-private collaboration in sustaining a reliable energy supply.

The forum highlighted that Mexico requires decisive action and a long-term energy strategy. Speakers said that priorities must include the transition to clean energy, supply security, and attracting investment. These goals should be supported by coordinated efforts across government, private industry, academia, and civil society. COPARMEX pledged to continue fostering technical dialogue and institutional collaboration to build a common energy agenda, ensuring legal certainty, diversified generation, and reliable energy coverage to support national and local economic growth.
