OMA Installs 8.7MW Solar Park, 49MWh Storage at Monterrey Airport

OMA announced the construction of an 8.7MW mega solar park and a major expansion of its battery energy storage system at Monterrey International Airport to accelerate its operational decarbonization strategy. The renewable energy project marks a key milestone in OMA's transition toward clean power self-sufficiency across its regional airport network in central and northern Mexico.

Does Mexico Have Enough Energy for the Transportation Sector?

José Celis, Director, Mitiga CO2, says that fully replacing Mexico’s gasoline vehicle fleet with solar-powered electric vehicles would require 29 million MW of installed photovoltaic capacity and an estimated US$17.6 trillion in generation investment alone. He emphasizes that evaluating these massive energy and capital requirements is essential to understanding the economic and practical realities of decarbonizing the transport sector.

France Grants Mexico US$113 Million Loan for Energy Transition

France will grant Mexico a US$113 million loan alongside up to US$2.72 million in technical cooperation to support the country's energy transition, strengthen renewable generation, and modernize electrical transmission networks. Managed by the Ministry of Finance (SHCP) and the French Development Agency (AFD), the 7-year public policy loan forms part of the Just Energy Transition (TEJ) initiative aimed at aligning grid expansion with long-term climate and clean energy targets.

One Play, Two Countries: An Eagle Ford Playbook for Mexico

Mexico stands at a strategic crossroads as the nation seeks to reduce its reliance on imported natural gas and strengthen domestic energy security. To unlock its substantial shale potential in northern regions such as the Burgos and Sabinas basins, Mexican energy authorities are re-evaluating technical and financial frameworks for unconventional resource development. Fidel Juárez, Mexico Country Manager and Reservoir Engineering Team Lead, Sproule ERCE, outlined at the Mexico Oil and Gas Summit 2026 how 15 years of operational history from the South Texas Eagle Ford play provides a clear playbook for Mexican field operations.
